On Friday, 5 April at 3 pm, the Rodgau Senior Cinema will be showing the US American film drama by director Steven Spielberg with leading actress Whoopi Goldberg. A southern drama that presents the social difficulties of the African-American population in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century using exemplary character fates. At the centre is Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), who was raped by her father as a girl and eventually forced to marry the neighbouring farmer Johnson (Adolph Caesar). However, the marriage to Johnson is not a happy one, as the farmer only needs Celie for work and has no feelings for her. He saves them for the singer Shug Avery (Margaret Avery), who is his mistress. Celie finds support from her younger sister Nettie (Akosua Busia), but she has to flee because first her own father and then Farmer Johnson come on to her. This leaves Celie with only her friendship with Shug Avery, which has developed despite the seemingly adverse circumstances. But soon both women have to think about how best to take their fate into their own hands. The Rodgau senior cinema takes place in the Kronen Lichtspiele, Hochstädter Straße 11 to 13. Admission costs €7. The cinema on Hochstädter Straße is air-conditioned, but unfortunately not barrier-free. The stairs must be negotiated independently.
