The city of Rodgau is expanding its range of digital services and is now offering residence registration completely digitally and free of charge for German nationals and EU citizens with an eID card. Electronic residence registration was developed as part of the implementation of the Online Access Act (OZG) and is gradually becoming available throughout Germany. Anyone moving to Rodgau from another German town or changing address within the town no longer has to make an appointment to register or re-register in person at the Citizens' Service Centre. The new online service combines the entire registration process with changing the address data in the residents' register and updating the ID card, eID card and passport. However, this electronic solution is subject to the following legal requirements: Re-registration only within Germany, currently only for German nationals and EU nationals with an eID card, user account with online ID (Bund-ID). The Bund-ID can be created free of charge at id.bund.de/en. A valid ID card with an activated online function or an eID card, an NFC-enabled smartphone, the ID card app installed on the smartphone and the landlord's confirmation of residence. The service can be used via the homepage of the city of Rodgau, rodgau.de, under the heading "Citizen service and online services" or via the website wohnsitzanmeldung.de. There are three steps to registering your place of residence: Firstly, the information about the new home is entered and then any necessary confirmation from the landlord is uploaded. After successful verification by the registration authority, a forgery-proof digital registration confirmation is available for download. The address data on the chip of the ID card can now also be updated independently via the online service and the ID card app. Finally, an automatic letter is sent from Bundesdruckerei with an address sticker for the ID card and, if necessary, a residence sticker for the passport. This is then affixed to the respective documents by the citizens themselves according to instructions.
