As part of the "Zuhause im Zentrum" project in the "Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Zentren" funding programme, a design competition was launched for the Nieder-Roden district centre. The aim is to plan a modern new building as part of the city's overall infrastructure, which opens up more into the urban space and retains the current functions. However, it should also meet the design, functional, technical and energy requirements of a future-oriented district centre. The new district centre should be characterised by a mix of uses that appeals to all population and age groups and is designed to be barrier-free. It should be multifunctional and provide rooms that can be used by associations and citizens in a variety of ways. The centrepiece will be an expanded city library with a larger exhibition area, especially for children's media, as well as a children's and a youth area. The library will be complemented by modern research and workstations, a co-working space and a small reading café. An IT room and two sports rooms are planned for the multifunctional area. In addition, multifunctional rooms for adult education courses and other educational programmes are to be created. In this way, the numerous existing programmes can continue to be held there and contribute to the greatest possible diversity. Workstations for employees and offices for the management of the library and adult education centre are also planned. In the area of neighbourhood work, the community work office will be supplemented by a youth centre. As part of the competition, the final invitation to tender has now been sent to the 14 participating architectural firms. At the same time, the jury was convened. The jury is made up of expert and specialist judges with voting rights, expert advisors (without voting rights, including members of the parliamentary groups) and guests. Two members of the citizens' committee take part as guests and represent the Nieder-Röder population. In the final competition phase at the end of September, the best designs will be selected, ranked and prizes and commendations awarded. Once the realisation competition has been completed, one of the prize-winning offices will be awarded the further necessary planning services in stages - subject to budgetary approvals. The contract will be awarded as part of a negotiated procedure.
