A musical reading with Hansel Billing will take place in the Nieder-Roden public library on Friday, 13 June at 7:30 pm. Hansel Billing is known to many in the region as the musician of "Backroots" and "Schwarzworz". After his well-deserved retirement, he has created a new programme for his audience entitled "Gedichtschen und Geschischtschen". This programme is an expression of his deep attachment to the Hessian dialect. The Hessian dialect is not just a dialect, it is a living piece of culture and characterises the identity of many people in Hesse. In Hesse, people "babble", but Hessian varies from region to region. It is precisely these regional differences that make the dialect so diverse and exciting. In his current programme, Hansel Billing presents both well-known and unknown works by Wilhelm Busch, Friedrich Stoltze, Heinz Erhardt, Karl Schaffnit and many others. In between, he complements the readings with songs from his own pen. His varied and colourful programme is enriched by interesting and humorous introductions and explanations, so that there is not a dry eye in the house. Although some of the poems are from the last or penultimate century and contain a somewhat unusual vocabulary, the audience is always amused by the way they are presented. High German works are also part of the programme and Hansel Billing carefully introduces the audience to the Hessian language. He himself describes his programme with the words: "It's like an hour and a half filled with cheerfulness and laughter, which has been proven to be healthy.". The event is part of the Kultursommer Südhessen programme. The "KUSS" (Kultursommer Südhessen) e.V. is an association of five South Hessian districts (Bergstraße, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Groß-Gerau, Odenwald, Offenbach) and the City of Science Darmstadt, which promotes cultural events in the region. The "KUSS" publishes an annual calendar of events for this purpose. Kultursommer Südhessen e.V., is sponsored by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture, supported by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen. The reading is free of charge. Please register in person at the public libraries, by telephone on 06106 693 1322 or by email to buecherei@rodgau.de.
