MANGA DAY will be celebrated for the fourth time in many bookshops and libraries in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland on 27 September. The Nieder-Roden public library is taking part for the first time and is opening its doors to manga fans of all ages from 10 am to 1 pm. Various publishers and labels have produced 28 free reading samples for this special day, which will be distributed free of charge on MANGA DAY. In addition to the free, extensive reading samples of selected manga, visitors to the city library can expect a great supporting programme: manga artist Freya Legel will be on site and will be offering a creative hands-on station for children to design their own manga character. Individual parts such as the body, hair, eyes etc. will be cut out, coloured as desired and glued together. Participation is free, registration is not necessary. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a creative workshop will take place in which Kawaii charms will be made from polymer clay. The term "Kawaii" comes from the Japanese and means something like "cute" or "sweet". The kawaii style has gained worldwide popularity in recent years and is particularly popular among young people. The kawaii style is characterised by exaggeratedly cute figures - animals, miniature food or plants. Graduate designer Svetlana Olenik shows step by step how to mould these playful mini figures from polymer clay. The finished figures are baked in the oven and assembled into a pendant. These can later be collected from the library. The workshop is suitable for anyone aged 10 and over and participation is free of charge after prior registration. Registration is possible by telephone on 06106 693 1322, by e-mail to buecherei@rodgau.de or in person at the public libraries.
