Holocaust Memorial Day KABARETT IM KZ

KABARETT IM KZ - Grammophonlesung

Ein dunkles Kapitel deutscher Kulturgeschichte in

Liedern, Texten, Filmen und Schelllackplatten präsentiert vom Musikkabarettisten Jo van Nelsen

Since 1996, 27 January has been observed in Germany as a day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism - the day on which the Auschwitz extermination camp with its approximately 7,000 remaining prisoners was liberated. This year, the town of Rodgau is commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day in the town council chamber in the town hall from 7.30 pm (admission at 7.00 pm) with a gramophone reading by music cabaret artist Jo van Nelsen entitled "KABARETT IM KZ".

In order to provide a bit of normality and distraction even in places of horror, the unimaginable happened: cabaret in concentration camps. In both Westerbork and Theresienstadt, numerous imprisoned entertainment stars of the Weimar Republic performed - sometimes secretly, sometimes by order.

In his gramophone reading, Frankfurt music cabaret artist Jo van Nelsen brings this almost forgotten and at the same time problematic chapter of cultural history back to life. He reports on the lives of numerous imprisoned artists, including Isa Vermehren, Willy Rosen, Paul O'Montis and Kurt Gerron, reads their texts, interprets their songs and plays historical shellac records.

You can look forward to another evening against forgetting and in favour of remembering those who made entertainment their purpose in life - even behind barbed wire. People who had to learn that even after the end of the war, the yellow star or the pink square weighed more heavily than their artistic achievements. At the same time, however, this evening is also characterised by cheerfulness, as the authors and performers presented were outstanding masters of their craft.

The organisers invite you to join them in this special form of commemoration and remembrance and thus set an example for tolerance and against anti-Semitism and discrimination in today's world - more topical than ever.

Admission to the event is free of charge and open to all.
