General

The Foreigners' Advisory Council is elected directly by the foreign population in Rodgau every five years. It represents the interests of foreign residents in the town of Rodgau. This includes

  • Maintaining and improving connections and understanding between all sections of the population
  • Promotion and provision of information and cultural events in cooperation with the relevant authorities
  • Education, work and housing situation and youth work

Tasks and rights

The Foreigners' Advisory Council represents the interests of foreign residents in the town of Rodgau in accordance with Section 88 (1) HGO.

Its tasks include 

  • Advising political bodies on all matters concerning foreign residents
  • Activities to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence between all population groups
  • Cooperation with various political and religious groups to promote integration and coexistence

Main areas of work

The Rodgau Foreigners' Advisory Council is committed to

  • for dialogue between cultures, religions and faith communities
  • for the intercultural opening of the city administration and municipal institutions
  • against discrimination, prejudice and violence

History

The Foreigners' Advisory Council of the town of Rodgau was founded in 1993 to represent the interests of foreign residents and to promote their political participation at municipal level. Since its foundation, the council has launched numerous initiatives, including the "Meal of Understanding", which promotes intercultural encounters, as well as organising language courses and homework help.

  • In 2000, the Foreigners' Advisory Council drew up an integration concept that is considered exemplary throughout the country
  • In 2018, the Foreigners' Advisory Council celebrated its 25th anniversary with a festive event at which the then chairman Göksal Arslan emphasised the achievements of the committee
  • Arslan chaired the Advisory Board with a brief interruption from 1997 to 2021
  • Baye Fara Sall from Senegal took over the chairmanship in June 2021
