Pavement parking
Since when is parking on the pavement no longer permitted?
Parking on the pavement has never been permitted under Section 12 of the Road Traffic Regulations. However, it was tolerated in Rodgau if a residual width of one metre was available on the pavement.
Why is it different now?
The following people are particularly vulnerable in road traffic
- pedestrians
- People with walking frames
- People with pushchairs
- Children up to the age of 8 who have to use the pavement on their bicycles
- Parents who accompany their children on the pavement
For this reason, the entire pavement must be available. The legislator has also clarified this again in the new catalogue of fines since November 2021 with new higher amounts.
The aim is also to ensure that the use of motor vehicles is limited to what is necessary in a climate-conscious and environmentally friendly manner.
What can I do?
To relieve the pressure on public car parks, you can consider the following:
- Please check whether there is space for the vehicle on your property or in your garage
- Perhaps your vehicles can also be parked there one behind the other
- If there is little space in your street, you can also park your vehicle a little further away and walk a few more metres
In terms of environmental friendliness, it can also be useful to consider whether you can also reach your destinations by public transport and thus reduce the number of journeys by car.
Why is this not the case throughout Rodgau at the same time?
There are many different streets in Rodgau with different road widths and pavements. Each street must therefore be considered individually.
The initial introduction of the new parking regulations was and is accompanied by information and clarification on site. It is important for us to give you sufficient time to do this gradually.
How does the announcement process work in new areas?
- The city of Rodgau informs the media in advance in which streets and in which section the parking regulations will next be adapted to the legal requirements
- At the same time, residents will receive a letter containing the essential information
- From this point onwards, vehicles parked incorrectly will receive red information notices on site
- We will monitor the situation for approximately four weeks and are available to answer any questions.
- The police will then take appropriate action during their regular checks
How high is the fine?
A fine of at least €55.00 is charged for parking on pavements.
