1977

...and a lot happened, so much that not even a list can capture everything that came to the fore in this first year of "history" in Rodgau.

In 1977, the previously independent municipalities of Weiskirchen, Hainhausen, Jügesheim, Dudenhofen and Nieder-Roden merged, although they did not yet have a uniform coat of arms or the title of "town" - despite now having a population of over 33,000.

Despite the new facts on the political stage, 1977 was a year of transition, the transition from five municipalities to that transitional entity with SPD supremacy and the landslide in the local elections on 20 March 1977, the end of SPD hegemony, with the associated initial woes of the new majority, the CDU, whose clear election victory with over 50% also meant the end of the FDP in parliament.

Despite the amalgamation of the municipalities, the administration remained and will probably remain divided between five town halls for the foreseeable future. But politics and the merger, the youth centre problem and the cost explosion of the Dudenhofen community centre from 2.5 million marks at the end of the previous year to 8.5 million marks and probably even more, were only temporarily in the foreground. The people of Rodgau started the year 1977 with a proper carnival party, with meetings and festivals that were more popular than ever, with a super-long carnival procession through Giesem - the name of Jügesheim as a carnival stronghold in Rodgau, which took on astonishing proportions despite fewer public subsidies, especially as the first-ever sale of badges turned out to be a worthwhile source of money.

However, the carnival period not only coincided with the local election campaign, but also with the largest student demonstration that Nieder-Roden and Rodgau have ever seen. The pupils of Nieder-Roden comprehensive school took to the streets in mid-February to demonstrate for more teachers.

While the board of the Weiskirchen gymnastics club continued to fight for survival and financial aid for the now 10-year-old sports hall after the local elections and into the autumn, the medical emergency service centre in Dudenhofen took over weekend medical care in the new large community, the clubs prepared for the season, the Diana Jügesheim shooting club celebrated the inauguration of its shooting range, which had been extended with more than 200,000 marks, two traditional singing clubs, the Dudenhofen male choir celebrated its 135th anniversary and the Nieder-Roden singing club Sänger Polyhymnia its 105th anniversary.000 marks, two traditional singing clubs, the Dudenhofen male choir celebrated its 135th anniversary and the Nieder-Roden singing club Sängerkranz Polyhymnia celebrated its 105th anniversary with a large public participation and a great programme.
