The town has had to bid farewell to one of its most deserving local politicians and supporters of local organisations: Weiskirchen's last mayor, Alois Lemke (CDU), died of a heart condition at the age of 61.
A new man has entered the local political arena: 36-year-old public administrator Veit Schameitat from Jügesheim was elected as the new First City Councillor by the city council. With 23 and 22 votes, the Green and SPD candidate prevailed over the CDU candidate, former First Councillor Wolfgang Oehlschlägel.
Two young men were hit by a train at Jügesheim station. One died and one was seriously injured.
At the end of January, a long-cherished wish for Rodgau came true: a police station was set up in the old town hall in Dudenhofen, which is initially staffed by eight officers during the day.
On the first weekend in February, a hurricane-like storm also raged over Rodgau, causing considerable damage to forests and fields as well as buildings. Three firefighters from the Dudenhofen volunteer fire brigade fell under a falling tree while clearing trees that were blocking the way to the hospital in Seligenstadt. The firefighter Siegfried Steinheimer (29) died at the scene of the accident. His comrade Norbert Murmann was seriously injured, while Wolfgang Deliaga escaped with minor injuries.
Then, on 13 February, came the sensation: First City Councillor Veit Schameiteit, who had only been elected in January, resigned from office with effect from 28 February after being on duty for just three days and then going on sick leave. The SPD and the Greens were left reeling. Under the impression of this resignation, the CDU, SPD and Greens agreed in the city council meeting to unanimously approve the budget 90 submitted by the city council, to discuss the budget proposals separately and then to anchor them in an early supplementary budget.
Another hurricane-like storm at carnival time - the carnival procession through Jügesheim took place anyway - caused further major damage, especially in the forest.
The Weiskirchen Sports Association set the course for a partnership with the "BSG Motor Cossebaude" club from Dresden.

In the middle of the month, the grand coalition between the CDU and SPD emerged after the debacle with the Green councillor Schameitat: a Social Democrat is to become first councillor, the lawyer Thomas Przibilla from Wiesbaden. In return, the SPD will support the re-election of Mayor Paul Scherer (CDU). On 30 March, the redesigned Nieder-Roden community centre was inaugurated after more than a year of renovation. The cost of the extensive remodelling: DM 4.3 million.
Most of the sewer network in the Rollwald district needs to be replaced, as a result of detailed investigations using television cameras. The city informed the affected residents at a public meeting. Probable costs in excess of DM 15 million.
At the invitation of the town, a former Jewish citizen of Dudenhofen, Mrs Rossmeisl, née Reinhardt, celebrated a reunion with the town of her birth and the former home of her parents.
The first residents from Eastern Europe moved into the workers' welfare organisation's relocation home in Seestraße in Nieder-Roden.
And at the beginning of the month, the fifth storm raged over Rodgau and there was also a barn fire in Rollwald.
The town of Rodgau appointed Hans Deister as the first of five landscape observers to keep a watchful eye on the environment.
Other events in brief: The oldest woman in Rodgau - Mrs Margarete Simon from Nieder-Roden - celebrated her 99th birthday.
Change at the top of the public order office: Franz Michl retired and was succeeded by Ralph Kieffer, Head of the Legal Department.

14 new citizens "in one fell swoop" with the arrival of the Frahs family of German origin from Argentina with 12 children. Federal President von Weizsäcker took over the godparenthood for the youngest, who was born in Rodgau.
It was less politics and more club life that dominated events in April, starting with Reinhold Daus' anniversary as conductor, which the Sängerkranz "Polyhymnia" Nieder-Roden Sängervereinigung celebrated with a big concert in the recently inaugurated community centre.
Two academic celebrations took place: the 110th anniversary of the Sängervereinigung 1880 Weiskirchen and the 65th anniversary of the AGV Volkschor Dudenhofen.
After 22 years, there was a change at the helm of the "Germania" Dudenhofen male choral society: Dieter Kratz succeeded Richard Resch.
Change also at the "Eintracht" Hainhausen choral society: Franz Schmitz replaces Willi Grimm. The children's choir of the AGV Volkschor in Dudenhofen has been in existence for 15 years.
An occasion for a cheerful concert. Rudolf Gabelmann was appointed honorary chairman of the Hainhausen gymnastics club.
And now to sport: the traditional fun run organised by TG Nieder-Roden had to be cancelled due to storm damage in the forest.
Although the TGM Jügesheim Easter run took place with over 800 participants, it was only run across an open field.
About the parties: Karlheinz Berndt became the new chairman of the Dudenhofen local SPD association, replacing Wolfram Neumann, and Hans Jürgen Grebe became chairman of the Rodgau FDP.
Wolfgang Furtak was honoured for 75 blood donations at the DRK Dudenhofen spring ball.
Visit by 40 representatives of the "Borac" Donja Stubica sports club from Yugoslavia to TG Weiskirchen to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the friendship.
Impressive exhibition by the Nieder-Roden trade association in the community centre at the end of the month.
The "merry month" began on a sunny note, bringing the first crowds to the clubs' forest festivals on 1 May, and the traditional May Day celebration organised by the DGB local cartel in Nieder-Roden on Puiseauxplatz was also well attended.
The lido - which has not yet opened - is also very popular.
Another cultural event at the beginning of the month: a chamber concert by the wind ensemble of the Dudenhofen Music Society in the town hall.
Sensational news of the month: Private investors want to build a large golf course on the farmland south of the L 3405 state road in Hainhausen.
A premiere in May: First "KiTa Day" organised by the kindergarten working group in the Dudenhofen community centre.
Personnel: Stefan Beyer new district forester in Dudenhofen, Winfried Keller, a Franciscan from Nieder-Roden, was ordained a priest.

On the political stage: SPD candidate Thomas Przibilla (39) was elected as the new First City Councillor by the city council on Wednesday, 23 May by 39 votes to three.
The city's budget was adopted with the applications deferred.
The coalition agreement between the CDU and SPD, the basis for this personnel decision, was signed on 21 May.
Anniversaries: Academic celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of SV Jügesheim, SKV Hainhausen celebrates its 90th anniversary at the end of May, SKV chairman Rüdiger Eisenschmidt is confirmed in office and the SKV plans to build four bowling alleys.
Heinrich-Böll-Schule very successful in sport: state winner in handball and in the Hesse final in football.
The first residents moved into the Werkmann development area - the former Kögel site - in Dudenhofen.
Two new club domiciles were found: for the Egerländer in the old Schwesternhaus in Jügesheim and for the Musikverein Nieder-Roden in the former town hall in Nieder-Roden, now the musicians' practice room.
Big trade show in Hainhausen's sports hall at the end of the month.
Major cultural events: "Focus 90" in Nieder-Roden was heralded as a "meeting of peoples", and the anniversary spring concert of the AGV Volkschor Dudenhofen in the community centre, while the Rodgau children's/youth rock band "Sound Everest" caused a sensation on radio and television.
And not to forget: A new lifeboat was put into service by the town and DLRG at the opening of the bathing lake in mid-May.
As expected, the pre-holiday month proved to be eventful: First City Councillor Thomas Przibilla took office, and a few days later Mayor Paul Scherer celebrated his 10th anniversary as Mayor of Rodgau (9 June), an anniversary that was honoured by the city council with a special meeting.
Two ground-breaking ceremonies were also held: On 12 June for the further construction of the Rodgau ring road from Jügesheim to Hainhausen (1.8 km, DM 5.6 million construction costs) and at the end of the month for the construction of the third sports hall of the Weiskirchen sports association, the "Haus des Sports".
There were two twinning anniversaries to celebrate, namely the 15th anniversary between Dudenhofen and Nieuwpoort on the weekend of the 23rd/24th in Rodgau with the naming of the new lido lifeboat "Nieuwpoort" and the 15th twinning anniversary with Nieder-Roden on the same weekend in Hainburg.
The 110th anniversary of the Weiskirchen Singers' Association 1880 was celebrated over Whitsun.
At the same time, the Weiskirchen Sports Association hosted athletes from BSG Cossebaude/Dresden on the sports field next to the festival grounds.
The horror story of the month: the total amount of forest damage in Rodgau caused by the winter storms is over two million marks.
On the other hand, a pleasing result: Local politician Horst Gossmann (CDU) from Jügesheim, who has been active in local politics for 30 years, received the Federal Cross of Merit, presented to him in the town hall by District President Walter Link.
A premiere in June: the Weiskirchen trade association organised its first "Open Shop" on the main street with actor Manfred Krug as the star guest at the opening.
For the first time, a mayor from the GDR, Peter Albach from Weißensee, visited Rodgau town hall.
The "Diana" Jügesheim Shooting Club also celebrated its 80th anniversary and the Claus-von-Stauffenberg School - a grammar school in Dudenhofen - celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Jürgen Kaiser from Dudenhofen became the new chairman of the Rodgau SPD.
Change at the top of the DRK Weiskirchen: Willi Schäffer, Chairman for 15 years, was replaced by his long-standing deputy, Heinz Spahn.
The Rodgau youth defence team came third in the national competition.
First of the city's four fully booked senior citizens' Berlin trips.
July brought two comforting announcements for those looking for housing: The town council decided to build 20 council flats in the "Mollischgraben" development area in Weiskirchen and, almost simultaneously, the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of 10 council flats on Forsthausstrasse in Dudenhofen took place.
Rodgau's sailing club chairman Klaus Kölpin set off single-handed for Iceland, but was unlucky with the weather: a storm lasting several days and strong winds from the north-west forced him to turn back.
In Rodgau, on the other hand, it was hot summer weather from mid-July with a sunny start to the Rodgau holiday games and trips to Nieblum/Föhr and Goldeck/Salzburger Land, also with children from Thuringia - at the invitation of the town.

Farewell honour: The town awards the Citizens' Medal to the retiring priests Sely (Hainhausen) and Rißberger (Weiskirchen) as well as to Sister Marietta, head of the Weiskirchen Catholic kindergarten.
Councillor Klaus Möller from the Green Party resigned his mandate and left his party.
Elisabeth Giebisch, the longest-serving teacher at the Wilhelm Busch School in Jügesheim, also retired.
Although retired, Adam Keller, Jügesheim, who celebrated his 70th birthday, is still active as a local historian.
Even more reason to celebrate in Jügesheim: Pastor Wendelin Meissner has been a priest for 25 years.
And on Sunday evening, 8 July, the whole of Rodgau celebrated the World Cup of the German national team in the streets and squares until late into the night.
To round off the SV Jügesheim anniversary celebrations, TSV Dudenhofen won the Kreiligisten anniversary tournament.
The traditional football club tournament for the city championship - the Rodgau Cup - was cancelled for the first time since 1975.
The 8th Gassenfest organised by the Jügesheim Trade Association at the beginning of the month, the Nieder-Roden Workers' Welfare Association's festival on Puiseauxplatz, was another success, combined for the first time with a large car show.
Farewell to a golfer's dream: Problems with the procurement of land meant that the entrepreneur's plan for a golf course in Hainhausen was pushed into the distant future.
Holiday-appropriate: the Dudenhofen youth fire brigade's camping holiday in the twin town of Nieuwpoort, and despite the holiday period, 668 cyclists took part in the TG Hainhausen cycling tour.
August began with sad news: 37 poplars along the Rodau had to be felled in autumn because they were no longer stable.
Good news from the lido, however: on 1 August, Mayor Paul Scherer welcomed Edeltraud Hecht from Jügesheim and her children Anja and David, the 100,000th visitor of the season.
The lido made further headlines: An elderly swimmer who suffered a heart attack in the water was rescued.
Mayor Paul Scherer put an end to the so-called "panty war" in the nudist section of the lido with a clear decision: Visitors are also allowed to wear briefs in the nudist section.
The Rodgau Adult Education Centre presented its winter programme with almost 200 courses.
There were three farewells in the parish of Weiskirchen: Pastor Alfred Rißberger and Sisters Marietta and Calixta retired.
Former first councillor Wolfgang Oehlschlägel (CDU) also took a temporary professional leave. He went to Sömmerda/Thuringia as an advisor to the district committee.
Around 2,300 senior citizens took part in the city's five senior citizens' excursions, which travelled to Würzburg by bus and the "Frankonia".
The holiday games - including an environmental rally for the first time - were completed with a record number of 674 participants.
At the invitation of the town, 20 young people from Weißensee and Sömmerda/Thuringia also took part in the leisure programme in Goldegg.
Participants from the former GDR also took part in the athletics city championships at the Weiskirchen Sports Association for the first time, namely from the BSG Cossebaude/Dresden.
There was a baptism record at the Nieder-Roden Protestant parish: Pastor Schwanke baptised 19 children and young people at once in one morning, residents of the new Übersiedlerheim in Nieder-Roden.
Anniversary celebrations: the 20th birthday of the Gartenstadt school in Nieder-Roden, the 95th anniversary of the MGV "Germania" Dudenhofen, the Egerländer moving into their new "Gmoihaus", the old nurses' house in Jügesheim, the topping-out ceremony of the Weiskrichen local history and heritage association at the new building in the courtyard of the old fire station, the 25th anniversary of the Jügesheim retirement home and the Jügesheim minigolf course at the water tower.
Two first-time visitors to Rodgau on a stopover: Hesse's Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Nature Conservation, Irmgard Reichardt (CDU) in the Dudenhofen community forest and Hesse's SPD state chairman Hans Eichel.
Finally, there are three street fairs in August, in Weiskirchen, Hainhausen and Jügesheim, once again "around the town hall".
The Catholic parish of Hainhausen bid farewell to Father Fridolin Sely on his retirement. His successor for the parishes of Weiskirchen and Hainhausen is Father Ulrich Engel.
It was also time to say goodbye to Edmund "Edu" Wolf, head of the city council's garden and cemetery department, at the beginning of the month. He went into retirement. His successor was Helmut Simon.
The public spotlight was on Steffen Hartig as the winner of the 3rd Rodgau Triathlon at the Nieder-Roden bathing lake out of 500 participants and once again on Carmen Giese, shooter of the SC "Gamsbock" Nieder-Roden, as the new German champion in air rifle shooting (three-position competition) and - for once not on the political stage - the head of the town council, Rainer Bergert (SPD). He succeeded in climbing Mont Blanc (4,810 metres).
His wife Ingrid Bergert is also flying high, albeit at a political level: the Social Democrat became a city councillor to replace the Green Party member Klaus Möller, who had left the council.
Helmut Trageser, a long-standing local politician from Weiskirchen, became the new head of the local court, succeeding his deceased predecessor, former mayor Alois Lemke.
Another former mayor, Günther Hinde! from Dudenhofen, will be presenting his latest book entitled "Perspectives", available in bookshops.
The 10th 24-hour run organised by the association "Gemeinsam mit Behinderten" e.V. Rodgau at the Dudenhofen sports centre was very well received. At around 70,000 marks, the proceeds more than doubled compared to the previous year.
The "Day of the Prisoner", organised for the first time in Rodgau, met with little response from the public.
In contrast, there was general joy at the return of the fish on the water tower, the two gargoyles and the small fountains. The Water Tower Friends had made it possible and unveiled the jewels at their traditional water tower festival.
New in the town hall foyer: the information desk of the Hesse Consumer Advice Centre.
No longer new is the annual citizens' reception in September, this time for all citizens born on 22 March.
The town's annual children's festival in the Jügesheim forest leisure centre and the adult education centre's Holland Week with numerous activities in the Weiskirchen community centre were great successes.
Heinz Spahn from Weiskirchen received a letter of honour from the state of Hesse for his services to the Red Cross.
Heiko Paulsen from the 1st Judo Club Nieder-Roden became Southwest German champion of the B youth (up to 60 kg).
A pleasing development at the cultural level: after a two-year break due to the renovation, theatre returns to the Bürgerhaus Nieder-Roden for the first time with Walter Giller as "Der Bürger als Edelmann".
Then there were two choir concert events in Dudenhofen: the international choir meeting - including a choir from Latvia - for the anniversary of MGV "Germania" Dudenhofen in the community centre and the friendship singing for the anniversary of AGV Volkschor.
In addition, local history researchers from Rodgau in the district of Offenbach presented an impressive record of their excavations - focussing on Nieder-Roden.
The horror story of the month: a grenade from the First World War was found while excavating the building pit for the social housing project in Dudenhofen.
The night of the "Day of German Unity" on Wednesday, 3 October, was also celebrated in Rodgau, not only at the invitation of the town in the Bürgerhaus with almost 4,000 guests during the evening before, but also in many restaurants and private homes.
The visit of a year 10 class from Saxony to the Heinrich Böll School in Nieder-Roden was also characterised by the growing together of the now reunited Germany.
German unity - and the upcoming federal elections in December - were the topics of two major political events with a popular character: the CDU Dudenhofen's traditional pig dinner in the packed community centre with Federal Research Minister Dr Heinz Riesenhuber and the SPD Dudenhofen's 7th Hesse Evening in the community centre at the end of the month with the state election candidate Hans Eichel.
However, not only these political guests were first-class, but also other events in sport and culture: Steffen Hartig from TG Hain- hausen achieved 75th place as an "Ironman" in the original triathlon in Hawaii, and the Musikverein proved to be extremely fast in the cultural field: its full orchestra was the first orchestra from Hesse to play in a united Berlin.
High honour for a deserving local politician and campaigner for the war-disabled: Dudenhofen's former mayor Ludwig Kratz received the Federal Cross of Merit First Class on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Karlheinz Hackel from Jügesheim received the State Certificate of Honour for his services as a trade unionist.
The month of October was characterised by a number of exhibitions: the town's third Environment Week on the subject of waste and packaging avoidance with a popular action day in the town hall, the water sports exhibition of the Rodgau Sailing Club in the Weiskirchen community centre with the "1st Rodgau Harbour Concert", the district poultry exhibition for the 65th anniversary of the Nieder-Roden Poultry Breeding Association in the community centre there and the first exhibition of the "Rheuma" self-help group in Jügesheim.
The Dudenhofen Seniors' Club celebrated its 10th birthday, and a delegation from Hainburg headed by the new mayor Franz Hirschl paid a return visit to Nieder-Roden to mark the 15th anniversary of the partnership, where a worthy anniversary celebration was held in the community centre.
And although it has already been gradually put into operation since spring, the new "Morija" retirement and nursing home in Ober-Roden officially celebrated its inauguration on 25/27 October. Rodgau is also contributing 873,000 marks towards the construction costs of around 15 million marks, as well as towards the cost of the space, which is also linked to an occupancy right for elderly citizens from Rodgau.

The "Opera Gala" of the Sängervereinigung 1880 Weiskirchen in the local sports hall with the Karlsbad Symphony Orchestra and soloists as part of the cultural series "Choirs of our town"; the "2nd International Choir Festival" of the Gesangverein Männerchor 1847 Dudenhofen in the community centre; the 15. municipal art and hobby exhibition in the Nieder-Roden community centre with 75 participants; the Belgian-German concert with the Nieuwpoort Concert Band in the TSV hall with the participation of the Dudenhofen Music Association and TSV Musikzug; the anniversary concert of the AGV Sängerkranz Jügesheim on the occasion of its 95th anniversary; and two theatre evenings of the Kolpingfamilie Jügesheim.
In Friedland, the 20th anniversary of Adolf Nessler's donation drives was honoured, supported by the town and its population. TGS Jügesheim presented the new Rodgau prince and princess: the Specht-Colloseus couple, Steffi II and Martin II.
The Geschwister-Scholl-School in Hainhausen celebrated its 25th anniversary, and to mark the 25th anniversary of the SG Nieder-Roden women's group, the "Gymnaestrada 90" was organised there in the sports hall with the participation of all Rodgau gymnastics groups.
On the Day of Prayer and Repentance, the memorial stone for firefighter Siegfried Steinheimer, who died there during the night of the storm on 3 February, was ceremoniously unveiled on the Dudenhofen/Seligenstadt road (district cross-connection).
Memorial ceremonies for Remembrance Day were once again held in all five districts.
A sports medical examination and counselling centre set up by the city in the Hainhausen sports hall was inaugurated.
The Jügesheim local history study group converts the Schwesternhaus hall into a local history museum.
Wolfgang Oehlschlägel (CDU), former First City Councillor in Rodgau, was elected as a district councillor in the district of Sömmerda/Thuringia for a three-year term.
The district administrator of the Offenbach district appointed Ralf Ackermann (32), fire chief in Jügesheim, as the new district fire inspector.
Mayor Paul Scherer informed the press about the plan to build a residential and nursing home for the elderly with 120 places - under private management - on a municipal site in Dudenhofen near the Toom supermarket.
Despite the help of electronics, it was not possible to determine the exact age of the so-called "Dicken Tanne" pine tree in the forest of Dudenhofen (Opel Prüffeld), as the inside of the trunk proved to be rotten. At least 200 years old, perhaps even 400 years, according to the results of a scientific study of the oldest pine tree in Hesse and probably in Germany, initiated by the Dudenhofen branch of the German Association for the Protection of Birds.
At the end of the month, two concerts - by the music clubs in Dudenhofen and Weiskirchen - kicked off the pre-Christmas cultural programme.
The federal election on 2 December was not without surprises in Rodgau either: The Greens lost half of their votes compared to 1987, the FDP gained votes, while the CDU and SPD maintained their positions: First votes: CDU 48.6% (48.6), SPD 35.2% (36.3), Greens 6.6% (9.9), FDP 6.3% (3.9). Second votes: CDU 46.6% (46.4), SPD 34.1% (34.0), Greens 5.3% (10.3), FDP 10.5% (8.0). Voter turnout 83.2% (86.6).
The Christmas markets were once again a great success with the public, namely the Advent stroll in Jügesheim on the first weekend in Advent, the Christmas market at the old school/church in Nieder-Roden and the Christmas market on Ludwig-Erhard-Platz in Dudenhofen on the second weekend in Advent and the Christmas market in Weiskirchen on the third Sunday in Advent with Heinz Schenk as the star guest at the opening.
The artists' circle "7/Zwölf" was formed, a merger of the former circles "Die Zwölf" and "Die 7". The first joint exhibition took place on the first Sunday in Advent at the Haus der Begegnung in Jügesheim.
At the district show of poultry breeders in the Nieder-Roden community centre, the host poultry breeding club won the district championship in its 65th anniversary year.
Helga Hoffmann, founder and chairwoman of the SOS organisation in Nieder-Roden, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
One figure says more than a thousand words: Mrs Hoffmann and her helpers have raised around half a million marks in donations for the SOS Children's Villages aid organisation for orphans all over the world through a wide range of activities over the last 20 years.
Aid for starving Russia also comes from Rodgau: 700 food parcels are collected in private donations via the Jügesheim families Sahm and Binder. The municipal council decided to make a sum of DM 10,000 available as a contribution from the town.
The town rented premises for the "1st Rodgau crèche" in Jügesheim, and the ground-breaking ceremony for the new kindergarten on Otzbergstraße in Nieder-Roden took place before Christmas.
The city finances the project, the Catholic parish takes over the sponsorship. At the last city council meeting of the year, the first city councillor and treasurer, Thomas Przibilla, presented his first budget: His budget speech concluded that the city's additional social, cultural and environmental services can only be achieved by increasing debt and raising fees.
Almost 1,800 senior citizens took part in the city's Christmas parties.
And just a few days before another bang on New Year's Eve, a further eleven live 15 cm shells from the First World War were found in the excavation pit at the social housing project in Dudenhofen. Thanks to careful excavation under professional supervision after the first discovery in September, there was no bang.
The year 1990 ended with three New Year's Eve events: the traditional New Year's Eve balls in the Bürgerhaus Dudenhofen (organised by the choral societies Männerchor 1847 and Frauenchor 1976) and in the Bürgerhaus Weiskirchen by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein, as well as a New Year's Eve party mainly for young people at the TGM Jügesheim.
Finally, some happy and some sad news: the markswoman Carmen Giese from the "Gamsbock" Nieder-Roden shooting club was awarded the Sports Badge of the State of Hesse in 1990.
