  • January

    • Rodgau crossed the threshold into the New Year with atmospheric New Year's Eve balls in the Dudenhofen community centre (men's choir/women's choir) and in the Weiskirchen community centre (local history and heritage association), while young people enjoyed themselves at a disco party organised by TG Weiskirchen in their sports hall.
    • But the cheerful start was followed by worries: the pavilion at the Georg Büchner School was no longer available for the start of school after it burnt down on Boxing Day (arson was suspected).
    • And the prospect that the city might not be able to open the soon-to-be-completed Rodgau-Ring road from Jügesheim to Hainhausen due to opposition from Heusenstamm also brought little joy.
    • Dead frogs at the outlet pipe of a Rodau tributary in Nieder-Roden not only alarmed nature conservationists and led to an investigation of the small sewage treatment plant of the Rhein-Main engineering company at Forsthaus Langeloh.
    • In contrast, there was general joy at the election of Nieder-Röder graduate engineer Alfred Schüler (CDU) as the new city councillor and head of the city council's building department, after Jürgen Kummer returned to the private sector before the end of his term of office.
    • The city started the "Year of Culture 92" with an extended programme of cabaret, including "Loriot's Dramatic Works" in the Bürgerhaus Nieder-Roden.
    • Chancellery Minister Friedrich Bohl spoke to over 700 guests at the CDU's New Year's reception in the Dudenhofen community centre.
    • On Friday, 17 January, the widow of Willy Purm, the former head of the city council and honorary citizen who died unexpectedly at the end of 1992, was posthumously presented with the certificate of his appointment at a special session of parliament in which his work was honoured.
    • Hainhausen's citizens collected 168 signatures to persuade Heusenstamm to approve the opening of the almost completed Rodgau-Ring road.
    • Detailed planning for the Rodgau S-Bahn crossings published: "Railway barriers to be closed", according to the headline in the press, costs around 60 million (Rodgau has to bear 1/3 of this).
    • Another scare: Nieder-Roden sports hall flooded at night by unknown persons.
    • At the end of the month, local historian Manfred Resch from Dudenhofen presented the church registers he had compiled to the press in the town hall, the result of years of research.

    • Inauguration of the town's new two-court sports hall at the Nieder-Roden community centre. Costs around 2.6 million marks.
    • Ready for occupancy: Eleven new council flats for young families on Forsthausstrasse in Dudenhofen.
    • New pastor couple for the Protestant parish - parish district II - Nieder-Roden: Claudia and Frank Kautzmann from Niedernhausen, Odenwald.
    • Break-in at the town hall on 7 February: they broke more than they stole.
    • Two families from Hainhausen - Gerlter and Franz - organised further aid shipments of food parcels to Romania, as well as aid shipments from the municipal kindergarten in Hainhausen for kindergartens in Timisoara, Romania.
    • State letters of honour awarded to deserving Rodgau residents Gerd Joachim Braun, Edmund Steinbrink and Renate Seib. In the Nieder-Roden community centre on 19 February, the district council
      elected Josef Lach, a social democrat from Nieder-Roden and former head teacher at Heinrich-Böll-Schule, as the new district administrator and Adelheid Tröscher as the new district councillor.
    • Farewell at the city council meeting for city councillor and head of the building department Jürgen Kummer (CDU), who returned to the private sector early from office, with many words of recognition and thanks, including from the opposition parties.

    • Carnival parade on Tuesday, 3 March, under the motto "Fresh - pious - cheerful - free / 4 x 11 we're in" with around 50 groups was the final highlight of the 91/92 campaign in Jügesheim.
    • Dudenhofen/Nieuwpoort twinning programme announced: Twelve visits, Gesangverein Männerchor 1842 Dudenhofen started the 150th anniversary year 1992 with an archive exhibition.
    • Heiner Geißler, Deputy Federal Chairman of the CDU, at the traditional herring dinner of the CDU Dudenhofen in the community centre.
    • Celebration of the 40th priestly anniversary of Pastor Rißberger in Weiskirchen, who served this parish for 15 years.
    • Russian agricultural technicians visited Aussiedlerhof Löwin Jügesheim to learn about breeding and rational working methods.
    • Margarete Simon from Nieder-Roden celebrated her 101st birthday on 14 March as the town's oldest citizen.
    • Easter exhibition of the Rodgau Adult Education Centre once again at the Georg Büchner School, this time in aid of the Children's Heart League.
  • April

    • The colourful events in the spring month of April began in Rodgau with the opening of a women's shelter, which is run with the help of the district - it is the second women's shelter in the district - and the local authority by the "Frauen helfen Frauen" association.
    • On 1 April, the new Head of Building Alfred Schüler (CDU) takes office in the town hall.
    • A total of 81 individual winners and 24 adult teams were honoured and 68 badges of honour were awarded to successful young talents at the town's awards evening in the Dudenhofen community centre. The following were honoured: Luise Kratz from the Protestant parish of Dudenhofen, Engelbert Fecher from the Weiskirchen volunteer fire brigade and from the Udenhout twinning committee, Helmut Winter from the Jügesheim poultry breeding association and Günter Kurt from the Jügesheim gymnastics club.
    • Swimmers and athletes from Dudenhofen's twin town Nieuwpoort were guests of the DLRG and TSV Dudenhofen and were officially welcomed by Mayor Scherer in the town hall.
    • 15th Easter run of the TGM Jügesheim with nationwide participation.
    • Balance sheet of the Rodgau fire brigades for 1991: 476 call-outs. 25th anniversary of the SOS Helpers' Circle in Nieder-Roden with Helga Hoffmann at the helm: around half a million marks raised in donations for children's villages around the world.
    • Start of the nationwide ÖTV strike: In Rodgau, the kindergartens are affected first, as well as the town hall administration at the beginning of May.

    • Successful trade show in Hainhausen with 41 companies.
    • On the first weekend in May, 50 guests from Donja Stubica in Croatia visited the partner club TG Weiskirchen and expressed their thanks for the donation trips already made from Rodgau. The programme of the visit also included a reception in the town hall by Mayor Paul Scherer.
    • The St Daniel's Choir from Moscow gave a guest performance at St Nicholas Church in Jügesheim: Russian songs for the reconstruction of a church in Moscow.
    • The Finkenweg overflow basin in Hainhausen/Jügesheim, which was built near the Rodau at a cost of 2.4 million marks as part of the development measures for the new Jügesheim development area J 26, was put into operation.

    • Horrible news in the press on Monday, 1 June: "Firebug destroyed Wilhelm Busch School". This primary school in Jügesheim was completely burnt down on Friday night. The police suspected arson.
    • A one-year trial began at the Rollwald post office to take on the tasks of a municipal contact centre.
    • Pupils from the burnt-down Busch School are initially housed in the Claus-von-Stauffenberg School in Dudenhofen.
    • Conversion and extension of the Friedrich-von-Bodelschwingh-School in Weiskrichen - total costs around 5 million marks - a done deal.
    • Awarding of letters of honour in the town hall to four deserving local politicians: Marlene Weidenauer, Horst Gossmann, Bernhard Koser and Franz Dörfler. Bishop Dr Lehmann visits Rodgau.

    • Protest by residents of Hainhausen against the attitude of Heusenstamm not to agree to the opening of the practically completed Rodgau-Ring road to Hainhausen Traffic jams throughout the eastern district, as the motorway was also partially closed - due to construction work - and traffic had to be routed via the planned diversion roads U 54 and U 71.

    • Setting the course for the construction of a senior citizens' centre in Dudenhofen: town cooperates with Bad Hersfeld-based company APP, which will take over the planning.
    • 47-year-old man was the victim of a well drilling in Nieder-Roden, a second person was injured: Exhaust fumes from an engine used to drive the drilling rig had entered the shaft and led to the poisoning.
    • The success story of the month: The team from the Rodgau youth fire brigade won the German national championships in Olpe and thus qualified for the 1993 European Championships in Berlin.
    • The second team came seventh out of 23 teams.
    • Roof truss fire in the old village of Jügesheim on an old half-timbered house. The municipal holiday programme starts again at the beginning of the holidays with holiday games, trips to Nieblum/Föhr and Goldegg/Austria.

    • A total of 2,200 senior citizens took part in the city's senior citizens' trips on the excursion boat "Frankonia", a total of five trips to Franconia between Karlstadt and Wertheim.
    • The city started the new theatre season with two subscription theatre series for the first time and was immediately well received: over 300 subscribers more than before with just one series.

    • Citizens in Hainhausen mobilise against planned S-Bahn subway and spark renewed debate on how to solve traffic problems - e.g. northern bypass instead of southern bypass.
    • Weiskirchen volunteer fire brigade puts new emergency vehicle into service.
    • On 23 September, the fire task force of the criminal investigation department ceased its investigations in the temporary office in the town hall: In the course of the search for the arsonists, a further 183 criminal offences were uncovered.
    • Design for the new building of the burnt-down Wilhelm Busch School was submitted: Costs around 6 million marks.

    • At the beginning of the month, Hans F. Busch from Weiskirchen presented his new dialect book "Kleine Geschichten aus dem Rodgau", which was also presented at the book fair.
    • Almost at the same time, Günther Hindel, the last mayor of Dudenhofen, published his fourth book, entitled "Nachgedachtes und Nachgefragtes" (Reflections and requests).
    • The town's traditional citizens' reception in the town hall once again brought citizens and politicians into dialogue. All citizens born on 30 May were invited.
    • At this civic reception, the well-known Red Cross volunteer Adolf Hessler, who has already received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services, was presented with the town's civic medal. Adolf Hessler has been transporting donations from Rodgau to the Friedland border transit camp for over 20 years.
    • Large public meeting on the S-Bahn extension in Dudenhofen: 200 visitors ensured a lively discussion, especially about the planned crossings in the individual districts. Local politicians announced that they would "reconsider" the planned eight subways.
    • "Flemish Week" with three chefs from the twin town of Nieuwpoort in Dudenhofen.
    • Recognition for the city fathers of Rodgau: The taxpayers' association praised the solid finances in the city of Rodgau.
    • The new kindergarten in Otzbergstraße in Nieder-Roden (the town financed the construction, the Catholic parish took over the sponsorship) was full of life from the beginning of October, as the children moved from the old kindergarten at the TG-Halle to their new home.

  • November

    • The SPD opposition leader in Bonn, parliamentary group leader Hans-Ulrich Klose, was a guest and star speaker at the SPD's "Hesse Evening" in the Dudenhofen community centre.
    • At the beginning of the month, the Rodgau Adult Education Centre celebrated its 25th anniversary with a ceremony in the town hall and honoured numerous long-standing course instructors.
    • Inauguration of the new workshop hall at the town's building yard in Jügesheim. Costs just under one million marks.
    • A delegation from the CSFR was welcomed to the town hall and also invited to take part in a parliamentary session: The local politicians from Klasterec learnt about Rodgau and its administration.
    • New' headmaster of the Georg Büchner School in Jügesheim: Winfried Döring, previously head of the secondary school branch of a Frankfurt school.
    • Nieder-Roden's twinning association celebrated Oktoberfest together with guests from the French twin town of Puiseaux.
    • Rare record at home for blood donations: Albert Walter donated blood for the 100th time at the Dudenhofen Red Cross.
    • The carnival revellers of the TGS Jügesheim elected the Rodgau prince and princess of the 92/93 campaign, Princess Heike I and Prince Gerald I, the married couple Brehler.
    • Former Federal Minister Dr Gerhard Stoltenberg was the guest speaker at the CDU Dudenhofen's overcrowded "Sauessen" in the community centre.
    • Charity event organised by the Frankfurt association "Help for Children from Chernobyl" with the folklore ensemble "Tschabarok" from Minsk in the Nieder-Roden community centre: Further donations for the expansion of a children's clinic into a cancer centre.
    • The town's annual art and hobby exhibition in the Nieder-Roden community centre presented 67 exhibitors with their works.
    • The International Opera Gala with the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra and the CKD Choir from Prague in the festively decorated sports hall of the Claus-von-Stauffenberg School in Dudenhofen was a glittering finale to the 150th anniversary year of the Männerchor Dudenhofen choral society.
    • The city inaugurated the first solar charging station at the Jügesheim fire station. The first municipal e-mobile has already been ordered.
    • The 75-year-old Social Democrat Günter Quadfasel from Nieder-Roden received the State Certificate of Honour.
  • December

    • The audience bid farewell to the old Nieder-Roden nurses' home. Young musicians from the Nieder-Roden Music Association with the "Rodgau Brass Band" and their combo provided the "farewell". The Catholic parish is planning a new parish centre there.
    • Opponents of the southern route in Hainhausen founded the latest Rodgau association called "Verkehrsberuhigung Hainhausen".
    • Official inauguration of the new Otzbergstraße kindergarten in Nieder-Roden. Costs 4 million marks.
    • Official inauguration of the extended organ in St Nicholas Jügesheim with a concert by Hans and Lieselotte Wüst.
    • Another well-attended senior citizens' Christmas party in all parts of the city.
    • Weiskirchen's Haabscher bowler Alfred Wiens again district champion among the seniors.
    • Large student demonstration in Rodgau with a star march to the town hall in Jügesheim, where a rally against xenophobia took place.
    • Emilie "Ernmi" Zilch's last hour of service at the Hainhausen municipal contact centre after 44 years of service to her community of Hainhausen.
    • Another "ground-breaking ceremony" before the end of the year, for the construction of the municipal kindergarten in the Jügesheim development area J 26 (Alter Weg).
    • And the city administration took another step into the future: the establishment of geographic data processing.
    • Large demonstration on Puiseauxplatz in Nieder-Roden with a sea of lights for peace and international understanding, organised by associations and political groups.
    • On Christmas Eve, there was also a chain of lights with the same purpose around the parish church of St Nicholas in Jügesheim.
    • The 1993 budget was passed by the city council in good time before the turn of the year.
    • The year ended on a cultural note with the traditional concert by the Nieder-Roden Music Association on the evening of Christmas Day in the community centre under the direction of the new conductor Rainer Hock, successor to long-time conductor Rudolf Schüler, who nevertheless continued to play in the orchestra.
    • The year 1992 ended with another well-attended New Year's Eve ball in the community centres of Weiskirchen, Dudenhofen and Nieder-Roden.
