2001

2001

  • January

    • New Year's night is short for almost 200 firefighters: a major operation in Nieder-Roden also calls on the fire brigades from Rödermark and Dreieich.
    • The police station in Dudenhofen will be manned around the clock from the turn of the year.
    • The deadline for submitting candidate lists for the upcoming local elections in March has brought it to light: six parties want to enter the city parliament.
    • The skating rink is flooded with 40,000 litres of water so that skaters can have fun on it. However, the anticipation doesn't last long: the ice has been chopped up in places, making it impassable.
    • At the annual wood auction at the Gänsbrüh in Dudenhofen, 90 metres of wood are auctioned off. This "folk festival", which is organised by the Germania choral society, has been attracting more and more fans since 1995.
    • Christmas and New Year's Eve are barely over before the jesters in Rodgau have many a surprise package in store for the population and fire "mood cannons" at the laughing muscles.
    • The local elections cast their shadows ahead. The ballot paper measures around a quarter of a square metre and is presented at a press conference. Sample ballot papers are distributed to all households. This allows voters to orientate themselves now.
    • In Jügesheim, the "Gemeinsam mit Behinderten" association is buying two residential buildings in Vordergasse. A residential complex for the disabled is to be built here.
    • The fifth Rodgau training fair opens its doors at the Heinrich-Böll-Schule and offers a glimpse into the world of work. The participating companies and the "Training Forum" are highly satisfied.
  • february

    • Ground-breaking ceremony at the bathing lake in Nieder-Roden. After the skate park and the beach volleyball court, the water playground is now the third change at the lake. The Umlandverband Frankfurt will invest around 350000 marks in the playground. In Rodgau, the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule and the Gartenstadtschule are selected by the Offenbach district for the model project of the open all-day school. The Rodgau "underground" keeps many people busy: The renovation of sewer and water pipes demands patience and detours from the residents of Jügesheim and Nieder-Röden. The "Local Agenda 21" with guidelines for sustainable development in the town of Rodgau is presented to Mayor Thomas Przibilla and Head of the Town Council Edmund Brehm. Around 50 citizens had been involved in this work for two years. During a "suspicious and incident-free" check at the Weiskirchen service station, 353 vehicles and 523 people are checked. The result: four arrests, fourteen investigations initiated and the seizure of a "significant" quantity of heroin. Around 130 police officers are deployed. Town hall storm and carnival procession bring the fifth season in Rodgau to a close. During the storming of the town hall, it is bitterly cold and confetti and snow fall on the jesters. On Tuesday, on the other hand, the sky smiles with the spectators on the street and the 50 parade numbers.
  • March

    • 400 citizens attend an information evening to find out about the upcoming S-Bahn construction. Over the next three years, the appearance of our city will change dramatically along eleven kilometres.
    • Construction work in Hainhausen too: the 26-year-old pavilions of the Geschwister-Scholl School are being demolished to make way for the new building.
    • At the joint annual general meeting of the fire brigades, it is announced that the five volunteer fire brigades had to carry out 481 missions in 2000. The "imbalance" between men and women - only in terms of numbers, of course - also becomes clear once again: six women and 197 men belong to the emergency services.
    • A unique Bible is being created in the Protestant Emmaus parish in Jügesheim. In sixteen hours, numerous scribes transfer the Gospel of Luke in neat handwriting onto elephant skin, a type of parchment paper. The youngest participant in the marathon is ten, the oldest scribe 82 years old.
    • The diving platform and the bathing island at the Nieder-Roden lido are "watered" and moved to their future location.
    • The time has come: on 18 March, Rodgau residents and countless election workers are facing an election day of superlatives. For the first time, the local elections will give voters the opportunity to vote by accumulation and panache. The results are quickly finalised in Rodgau and are already available on the Tuesday after the election. The CDU enters parliament with 21 seats, the SPD with 16, Bündnis90/Die Grünen with three, FDP and Republikaner with two each and Bürger für Rodgau with one.
    • A major project takes its course. The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the S-Bahn has been held. From now on, a period of diversions and inconvenience for citizens officially begins. But the result should make up for all the inconvenience. The S-Bahn is expected to be completed by the end of 2003.
  • April

    • In Dudenhofen, construction work begins on the "old" bakehouse, which will be a reconstruction of the one that the old Dudenhöfer people remember. The oven of the "Backes" is to be fully functional and actively used.
    • The person who set fire to the speed camera at the roundabout junction may have been speeding once too often.
    • Lido tickets and asparagus certainly have something to do with the weather. Some are already available, while others are taking longer than usual due to the cold and wet weather.
    • Following a unanimous election, Anette Schweikart-Paul presides over the city council and is thus the "First Citizen of the City". The speakers in parliament initially find it difficult to address her. The head of the city council is often referred to verbally as "the man", as the members of parliament had become too accustomed to "Honourable Mr Head of the City Council".
  • May

    • A warm start to May ensures a full lido, which has a new attraction with the new water playground, and a run on the first forest festivals.
    • The district committee and the municipal council have agreed on the "big solution" for the remodelling of the Georg Büchner School in Jügesheim. Construction can now begin - provided the district council and municipal council agree.
    • The temperatures plummet, which doesn't detract from the Jügesheim Gassenfest, which could have been swapped for the Christmas market - as far as the temperatures are concerned. Around 40 stalls attract several thousand visitors in thick jackets to the streets.
    • Turngesellschaft, Turngemeinde and Sportverein Jügesheim seal the deal for the construction of the "Weichsee" sports centre. The clubs will share the use of the site and its facilities on a neighbourly basis.
    • In Nieder-Roden, children from the Gartenstadt School mark the 50th parallel. The district is on a line with Winnipeg, Krakow and Prague.
  • June

    • A firefighter is slightly injured while extinguishing a fire in a commercial building in Jügesheim. The occupants are able to leave the building in time.
    • 159 school leavers receive their certificates at Claus-von-Stauffenberg-Schule and can now begin the "serious side of life" - perhaps not straight away, as holidays and relaxation are certainly on the agenda first.
    • It is actually just a plant - but a rather poisonous one. For this reason, a huge Hercules plant is dug up in Nieder-Roden with heavy equipment and burnt under the supervision of the fire brigade.
    • Two and a half months after the ground-breaking ceremony, the topping-out ceremony is celebrated at the "Backes" in Dudenhofen.
    • More than 200 boys and girls take part in the holiday games. This year's motto takes the children on a "journey around the world".
    • Wolfgang Kern is retiring from his position as town fire inspector. For 18 years, he managed the fortunes of the fire brigades in Rodgau. However, Kern was a judge at national and international fire brigade competitions for even longer.
  • July

    • A tragic accident overshadows the swimming fun at the lake in Nieder-Roden. A thirteen-year-old boy from Dietzenbach can only be rescued dead by the divers.
    • A new playground is inaugurated in Dudenhofen on the area previously known as "Roter Platz" between Koblenzer Weg and Bonner Weg. The playground was created there at the request of local residents in particular.
    • The first supra-regional authority moves to Rodgau: the Hessian Forestry Office relocates its headquarters from Neu-Isenburg to Nieder-Roden.
    • An accident on the country road near Obertshausen in the immediate vicinity of the A3 motorway led to a full closure of the motorway and a traffic jam lasting several hours. Aid organisations provided the motorists stuck in the traffic jam with the essentials.
    • Major construction projects in Jügesheim: the three sports clubs sign the contract with the architect for the construction of the "Weichsee" sports centre and two houses give way in the town centre so that the disabled housing complex can be built.
  • August

    • Alongside the ongoing work on the S-Bahn line, Rodgau residents can now also find out more about this in a permanent exhibition in the town hall. Since the beginning of August, a closing time of one hour in the early morning has been in force. Almost all pubs and restaurants in Rodgau have retained their previous closing times. Around 150 inline skaters "experience" their town on a 9-kilometre circuit through Dudenhofen and Nieder-Roden. A major fire between Jügesheim and Weiskirchen keeps the Rodgau fire brigades on their toes during the night, but they manage to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby forest. Andreas Winter is the new town fire inspector. He is elected by an overwhelming majority of the 12O active firefighters to succeed Wolfgang Kern. Wolfgang Kern is honoured and retired at a special ceremony in the Nieder-Roden community centre with the active participation of all of Rodgau's fire brigades. In honour of his services, Kern receives the Golden German Fire Brigade Cross of Honour from District Fire Inspector Ralf Ackermann. Another fire in Nieder-Roden: around 8000 square metres of meadow are destroyed in the "Nieder-Rodener Lache" nature reserve. Here, too, the cause of the fire is unclear. Cardinal Karl Lehmann lays the foundation stone of the residential complex for the disabled in the centre of Jügesheim with a large turnout from the local population.
  • September

    • The 24-hour run is once again a complete success this year. The donation total of 35,000 marks beats old records.
    • People in Rodgau are also shaken by 11 September. The children's party at the forest recreation centre is cancelled, as is the citizens' reception. Memorial services and silent marches are organised to help people come to terms with the unbelievable events.
    • The former town hall in Nieder-Roden becomes a house of music following a decision by parliament.
    • At the end of September, numerous kites once again populate the sky above Nieder-Roden and thousands watch, even though the wind conditions are once again not ideal.
    • After a long period of uncertainty regarding the financial and legal situation of the Gretel-Egner-Haus in Dudenhofen, new operators have been found.
  • october

    • The railway is not making friends everywhere with its activities around all the construction sites in the city. However, one person is particularly pleased about the construction: Hans-Peter Fuchs is an enthusiastic railway fan and has received a heavy gift from the railway for his efforts on his own homepage. The northernmost kilometre stone in the Rodgau district now adorns Fuchs' front garden. The stone has become superfluous due to the construction of the S-Bahn.
    • Turn back the clock in Dudenhofen. Children of all ages can dream of the old days at the knights' tournament and the medieval market in "Outland".
    • The mail distribution centres are on alert due to the risk of anthrax after a suspicious envelope is found in Offenbach. For this reason, no mail will be delivered in Rodgau for a day.
    • A mother and her daughter have a stroke of luck at an unrestricted level crossing in Weiskirchen. Their car is hit by the train and dragged along for around 100 metres. Both survive the accident, the girl is completely unharmed.
    • The fire in the underground car park of the town hall calls 140 emergency services to the scene. All of Rodgau's fire brigades and the St John Ambulance are involved in this major operation. A temporary first-aid post is set up in the town hall courtyard. But it's all just an exercise that runs like clockwork.
  • November

    • The damage to the old synagogue in Weiskirchen is much greater than expected. The building can now only stand on temporary scaffolding.
    • Sprayers in the "service of the city". Ten young people design the pedestrian subway under the B45 in Weiskirchen with lots of spray paint.
    • The jester's flag is hoisted - almost punctually - on the town hall square at 11.11 a.m. on 11 November.
    • Alois Schwab is elected as the second full-time city councillor in parliament and takes office in January 2002.
    • In Dudenhofen, the first work begins on the renovation of the Rektor-Geißler-Haus with the removal of the plaster and the shingle façade.
    • Princess Steffi and Prince Gugi are not the regents of the 2001/2002 carnival campaign, but the calves that the princely couple Steffi IV (Schenk) and Sebastian I (Rosskopf) helped to give birth to on the day of their enthronement.
    • The first subway under the railway tracks in Dudenhofen at the station is passable for pedestrians. This means that the S-Bahn construction is making visible progress. "Boris" and Bernhard Jagoda in Rodgau.
    • The President of the Federal Labour Office was given a demonstration of the new system, which is designed to interlink various information, advice, job and training services, at the branch office of the Labour Office.
  • December

    • The first Christmas market in Jügesheim featured a slightly different form of snow: it drizzled almost non-stop.
    • Five mothers are helping to protect their own children from speeders by erecting wooden figures on the roadside in front of the "Alter Weg" day care centre as signs.
    • SV-Jügesheim and TGM Jügesheim merge and from January 2002 will bear the long name: TGM 1888 - SV 1915 Jügesheim.
    • You can eat the best bread in Germany in Hainhausen. Master baker Wolfgang Schäfer receives the "Prize of the Best" in gold for his baked goods in the quality competition organised by the German Agricultural Society.
    • Stadtwerke Rodgau can move from Dudenhofen to Jügesheim. The building of the company Eisen-Jäger-Baustoffe in the industrial area is sold and thus offers the municipal utilities a new central location.
    • Heusenstamm's mayor Josef Eckstein hands over a cheque for 150,000 marks to the town of Rodgau. Heusenstamm is thus contributing to the planning costs for the extension of the Rodgau-Ring road.
    • The Association Chamber of the Frankfurt RhineMain Region Planning Association has decided to publish the plans.
    • The winner of the 2001 Culture Prize has been decided: the cabaret group "En Haufe Leut" has enriched the carnival scene for years and has always ensured a full house at Kabarett im Parlament.
    • Preparations are underway in the Dudenhofen forest for the traditional timber auction next January. 60 solid cubic metres of beech, oak and pine are being stacked.
    • The Gänsbrüh in Dudenhofen is hosting the Forest Christmas for the fourth time. With ice and snow - finally a really "white Christmas" - not quite as many believers come to the forest. Nevertheless, it is once again a joint celebration for all Christians.
