  • January

    • Now it's really starting: the introduction of the euro at the turn of the year led to queues, mainly at petrol stations, in the last few days of the old year. Everyone wanted to get rid of their last marks.
    • Alois Schwab has taken up office as a full-time councillor in the town hall. He is now responsible for civil engineering, the public order office and municipal utilities.
    • Winter has Rodgau firmly in its grip, especially with lots of ice. Around 75 tonnes of gritting material had already been put on the roads by the beginning of January. Supplies are slowly running out in the neighbouring municipalities!
    • The 2001 Culture Prize is awarded to "En Haufe Leut" - not in the town hall, as is fitting for this group, but in the TGS-Narrhalla.

    • 50 groups from all over Rodgau present themselves to the foolish spectators at the traditional carnival procession in Giesem. Even the construction work on the S-Bahn line is put on hold for this colourful procession.
    • As the first subway under the new S-Bahn line, Dellweg has been completed and is immediately causing a stir. As a temporary diversion route for the closed Mainzer Straße, it is causing a stir.
    • The training fair at the Heinrich Böll School gives hundreds of pupils and their parents an insight into the world of work. 44 exhibitors provide advice and information about a wide range of professions.
    • The district of Offenbach and the town of Rodgau have given the go-ahead for the expansion of all-day care at the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule and the Gartenstadtschule. The necessary construction work at both schools is due to begin during the summer holidays.
  • March

    • 22 teams compete against each other at the 7th Dudenhofen Youth Centre Streetball Tournament at the Claus-vom-Stauffenberg School. This is the first time that the tournament has been largely organised by a group of young people.
    • The unanimous opinion after the competition: the boys and girls from the youth centre did a really good job and it was a cool event.
    • Parliament unanimously decides to set up a file inspection committee. It will be responsible for examining the administration's work on the S-Bahn.
    • At the ground-breaking ceremony for the refurbishment and partial new build at the Georg Büchner School, numerous people praise the unique joint project between the district and the town. The plans to build an assembly hall at the school are particularly welcomed.
  • April

    • In Nieder-Roden, a major fire startles many residents of the "China Wall" out of their sleep. A fire breaks out on a balcony on the tenth floor. Seven people are injured.
    • The "Help for Petra" campaign calls countless Rodgau residents to Nieder-Roden. Almost 800 people register with a blood sample at the German Bone Marrow Donor Centre.
    • Winfried "Django" Mann, on the other hand, loses his battle against blood cancer. He dies at the age of 53.
      The first "Girls Day" in Hesse is also a complete success in Rodgau. Around 200 schoolgirls from Rodgau get a taste of professions that are not necessarily "typical for women".
    • Things are hotting up at the bakery in Dudenhofen: the first fresh loaves are leaving the oven and are still hot on the counter.
    • The water at the bathing lake is less warm at this year's season opening: 13 degrees - but one very brave swimmer still dares to take a dip.
  • May

    • The planned increase in kindergarten fees and property tax B and the budget freeze imposed on the administration in March clearly show Rodgau's financial situation. The good times are over.
    • A 78-year-old man dies in a house fire in Dudenhofen. Five other residents suffer smoke injuries.
    • An old tradition is revived in Weiskirchen. August Breuning lights a charcoal pile for the singing association's festival, which attracts many visitors and interested parties.
    • Dudenhofen is firmly in dragon hands at the second medieval market in "Outland".
  • June

    • The Gassenfest in Jügesheim attracts numerous visitors to the town centre.
    • A reason to celebrate in Nieder-Roden too: the "House of Music" is officially opened.
    • At the Gartenstadtschule in Nieder-Roden and the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule in Dudenhofen, pupils as well as the "officials" are using unusual equipment. At the ground-breaking ceremony for the new buildings and conversions required for the open all-day schools, the future users are almost digging the excavation pit themselves.
    • The second supplementary budget is passed in the Rodgau parliament without the SPD. It leaves the council chamber beforehand.
    • The Nieder-Roden lido is on this year's list of buildings particularly worth seeing at the "Day of Architecture"
  • July

    • In the first round of the holiday games, 220 children are involved with the elements. A further 250 children from all over Rodgau will follow in the second round.
    • The former mayor of the municipality of Dudenhofen, Ludwig Kratz, passes away at the age of 81.
    • In Nieder-Roden, old times are brought back to life at the 2nd film night organised by Rudi Keller.
    • A new daily record for the current year is set at the bathing lake with 10,000 visitors.
  • August

    • The public prosecutor's office also confiscates files in Rodgau town hall on suspicion of price fixing and taking advantage in connection with a construction company.
    • The nature and play park opens in Weiskirchen.
    • The hospice working group can begin its work with a first training course. 520 children begin the exciting years of a hopefully successful school career at Rodgau primary schools.
    • Firefighters from Rodgau are also travelling to the east of Germany to help with the flood disaster.
    • The disabled toilet facilities, including a baby changing room, are completed at the Nieder-Roden bathing lake.
    • In Dudenhofen, young people celebrate the opening of the new youth café "InScene 63110" in the youth centre.
  • September

    • Young people from the Georg Büchner School help with the clean-up work after the flood of the century in Saxony-Anhalt.
    • In the Weiskirchen community centre, citizens discuss the planned logistics centre in Weiskirchen-Ost in public with the mayor and experts.
    • Participants in the 24-hour run in Dudenhofen raise over 100,000 euros.

    • Hurricane Janette also kept the Rodgau fire brigades on their toes with 22 operations in two hours.

    • The first St Martin's market is held in Dudenhofen with a large turnout from the local population.
    • Pupils from the Heirich-Böll School present their inventions to an international audience at the Inventors' Fair in Nuremberg.
    • The municipal art exhibition has a new look. This year, there will be no pre-Christmas handicrafts at all.
    • The city council imposes a spending freeze in order to achieve savings in the municipal budget.
    • The prince and princess of the current campaign have been announced: Prince Marcel I and Princess Dana I (Rupp) .
    • The southern route in Hainhausen is the first subway to be completed and opened to traffic. At the same time, the Offenbacher Landstraße railway crossing is closed.
