    • The 14th historical timber auction organised by the Germania choral society takes place at the Gänsbrüh in the Dudenhofen district. This year, Monica Büchner is crowned the Queen of Precious Wood.
    • In addition to competitions with sawing, splitting and stacking, there will also be a vintage tractor parade.
    • Since January, found animals from Rodgau no longer come to the animal shelter in Münster, but to the Dreieich animal shelter.

Rodgau's prince and princess Frank II and Martina II are among the more than 500 representatives of Hessian carnival clubs attending a reception hosted by Hessian Prime Minister Roland Koch at Biebrich Palace in Wiesbaden. The Schäfer bakery from Hainhausen produces the edible prince and princess for the campaign: The Prinzenkreppel has an edible picture of the couple on the top.
    • A series of break-ins at various kindergartens and the Freiherr-vom-Stein School in the Dudenhofen district cause damage that is considerably greater than the loot.
    • Maks Perkman and Klaus Rupp from the Rodgau Colour and Shape Canary Club qualify for the World Championships in Hasselt (Belgium) by winning the German Championship title. Marks Perkman wins with his "Münchner Positiurkanarien" and Klaus Rupp among others with his "Maurenbuchfinken".
    • More than 650 runners take part in the RLT Rodgau ultramarathon over 50 kilometres in Dudenhofen.
    • The city provides 30,000 euros for the environmental fund. Measures eligible for funding include climate protection, landscape conservation, soil protection and groundwater recharge.
    • In the 2008 state election, 43.4% of the first votes in Rodgau went to Frank Lortz of the CDU. The SPD received 35.7% with its candidate Dr Judith Pauli-Bender. The Greens received 6.5%, the FDP 6.8% and the Left Party 3.2% of all votes. The CDU received 41.6% of the second votes, the SPD 33.1% and the Greens 6.8%. The FDP received 9.2% of all votes and the Left Party 4.3%.
    • The Gänsbrüh pond in the Dudenhofen district, a popular local recreation destination in Rodgau, is on the verge of "tipping over". The oxygen content is below one per cent.

    • This year's storming of the town hall is an effortless success for the carnival revellers.
    • The first Hainhausen carnival parade is already being rehearsed for the 900th anniversary celebrations in June, although the hope is of course for more pleasant temperatures.
    • For the first time, all three Rodgau comprehensive schools are taking part in the 12th Rodgau training fair at the Heinrich-Böll-Schule in Nieder-Roden with exhibitions and presentations alongside 50 exhibitors from trade, crafts and services.
    • The carnival procession features 55 parade numbers. The participating groups and thousands of jesters are put through their paces in the freezing cold and rain, but this in no way dampened their spirits. However, there is a decline in the number of masked balls and meetings.
    • Richard Reppel and Klaus Seib, volunteer firefighters from Dudenhofen, receive the State Certificate of Honour for their great commitment.
    • The Protestant deanery of Rodgau celebrates the introduction of the new dean, Pastor Carsten Tag, with trombones and trumpets, choir singing and friendly words during the service. The 43-year-old pastor works at the House of the Protestant Church in Dietzenbach.
    • Five political groups reject the municipal budget. This shows a deficit of 6.86 million euros.
    • The performance of the "Threepenny Opera" is postponed. Director Erik Schmekel of the theatre group "Großes Welttheater" does not have the time to prepare for professional reasons.
    • This year, the daycare centres are once again holding an open day on a Sunday to present "a strong offer for families".
    • Pastor Anja Schwier bids farewell to the Protestant parish of Dudenhofen with a church service.
    • Manfred Resch's local history archive moves into the building next door to the medical on-call service in Friedberger Straße in Dudenhofen. Manfred Resch is handing over his private collection and the IGEMO (community of interest) will take care of the administration.

    • 16 young people are taking part in the Claus von Stauffenberg School's pilot project "Helping people to help themselves - fire safety and first aid". The sixth form students complete a basic course organised by the volunteer fire brigade.
    • Lena Krawczyk and Luca Einloft from TGM SV Jügesheim are named athletes of the year. The two finished fourth at the European Championships and were honoured for their national and international successes along with other athletes at the club gala in the Bürgerhaus Dudenhofen. The Offenbach-Post donates the trophy for the outstanding sporting achievements as "Sportsman of the Year".
    • Letters of honour from the city of Rodgau for decades of voluntary work in clubs are awarded to Gerhard Klein and Johann Klein, both TSV Dudenhofen, Erwin Köhler, Sängervereinigung Weiskirchen, Herbert Schimpke, TG Nieder-Roden, Winfried Seib, Männerchor Dudenhofen and Norbert Franz, Gesangverein Eintracht Hainhausen.
    • Maingau Energie presents the plans for the construction of the natural gas tube storage facility. The decision is still open. The distance between the first storage facility in Hesse and residential areas is too small for the citizens' initiative. Mayor Alois Schwab also rejects the planned location on the outskirts of Jügesheim.
    • The northern sports ground of TGM SV Jügesheim in the Maingau-Energie-Stadion has been officially opened. Erwin Kneißl, District Administrator Peter Walter and Mayor Alois Schwab jointly open the gate to the 400 metre running track. All athletics disciplines are possible there.
    • The old forester's lodge in Rollwald is demolished. The plot is offered as building land.
    • The adult education centre's Easter market with the participation of hobby artists, clubs and self-help groups with an attractive supporting programme such as the opening with the string group of the Rodgau Free Music School, dance groups and children's choir is once again successfully held in the Nieder-Roden community centre.
    • The 2008 forest management plan is balanced for the first time in years.
    • Passenger numbers on the city buses within Rodgau continue to rise. The World Day of Prayer is celebrated in Rodgau with four church services. It unites believers all over the world. People sing and pray together.
    • A second sports ground within the urban area is being converted: 43 semi-detached and terraced houses are to be built on the TGS site in the Jügesheim district. TGM SV Jügesheim is also successful at the Hessen Aerobics Championships in Frankfurt-Niederrad. The Jügesheim team wins eight aerobics Hessen championship titles.
    • The 2008 Walter Picard Prize of the State Welfare Association goes to Stephan Sahm from Jügesheim; he shares the prize with the "Sandkörner" theatre group. Stephan Sahm has been looking after mentally ill people on a voluntary basis for 15 years.
    • The hospice service is moving to Nieder-Roden to Puiseaux-Platz next to the social centre. The contact persons can now be reached there every morning (except Saturdays and Sundays).
    • Circus Probst makes a guest appearance at the fairground in Nieder-Roden. 80 artists and 90 animals are travelling with the circus. The highlight of the show is six Bengal tigers presented by Christian Walliser.
    • Soloist Lena Krawczyk and the polka formation "Footloose" win the Hessian Championships at the Hessian Association for Garde and Show Dancing at TSC Schwarz-Gold Frankfurt.
    • "Service living for senior citizens": The senior citizens' counselling service in the town hall coordinates help for older people. This assistance includes, for example, home visits, advice for senior citizens and the organisation of necessary services.
    • The Hainhausen History and Culture Association sends out its letters with the logo of the 900th anniversary celebrations. Unfortunately, the specially produced "Plusbriefe" are not available to buy. The motif was designed by Thomas Wex from Jügesheim.
    • The DLRG's Easter egg hunt at the bathing lake in Nieder-Roden is different this year: with temperatures around freezing and snow showers, thick socks, gloves, scarves and hats are the order of the day. 150 children and their parents come to the hunt.
    • Bernd Müller becomes the new branch manager of the employment agency in Rodgau. He succeeds Karl-Heinz Funk.
    • In four Catholic churches, 85 children receive their first Holy Communion.
    • The Protestant church council in Dudenhofen decides to part ways with long-serving parish pedagogue Petra Berger.

    • The oldest citizen born in Jügesheim, Mrs Johanna Schüler, celebrates her 100th birthday with her family.
    • The school cafeteria in Hainhausen opens after the Easter holidays. It provides pupils and teachers from Münchhausen School and Geschwister-Scholl School with a freshly cooked lunch every day.
    • The CDU nominates Mrs Anette Schweikart-Paul, head of the city council, as candidate for mayor in the next mayoral election.
    • At this year's spring festival with an open Sunday in Jügesheim, the weather is anything but spring-like. A special animal rarity lives in Jügesheim: twelve of the 572 remaining Bentheim coloured pigs live on the Sandhof farm.
    • More than 500 guests attend Rodgau's 1st Diabetes Day in the Nieder-Roden community centre. In addition to numerous specialist presentations, interested parties can obtain information from the businesses represented and at information stands.
    • Mr Heinrich Hittel, the long-standing expert beekeeper who worked as a bee scarecrow expert for more than 47 years, is awarded the Letter of Honour of the State of Hesse.
    • In April, girls and boys in three Catholic parishes also make their First Communion in April weather.
    • A "Gud Stubb", a fully furnished living room from around 1900, is set up on the upper floor of the Nieder-Roden local history museum.
    • The Hainhausen History and Culture Association (GKH) is celebrating three premieres at the 900th anniversary of Hainhausen: A thick celebration book, an upbeat Hainhausen song and a new type of bread called "Hainhäuser Urlaib". The town receives the Freiherr-vom-Stein certificate of honour from the state. The state government recognises the work done for the good of the community.
    • A new Deutsche Post AG service branch opens in the Hainhausen district.
    • Another section of the redesigned playground at Friedrich-von-Bodelschwingh-Schule is opened. The highlight of the area is a wheelchair carousel.
    • Formations and individual dancers from the TGM SV Jügesheim dance sport department win two German championship titles: Lena Krawczyk secures the youth title of German champion and the runner-up title in pairs dancing with Luca Einloft. "Footlose", the polka formation, also won first place. This qualifies them for the European Championships.
    • Gerd Schmalenbach (SPD) is elected head of the Jügesheim local council.
    • Johanniter-Unfallhilfe in Nieder-Roden expands its building and thus secures the Rodgau location.
    • SPD, Greens, FDP, CSG and Free Voters form an alliance in the city parliament until 2011.
    • The establishment of a "DM" drugstore in Hainhausen next to the Lidl supermarket will create 15 new jobs.
    • The Toom DIY store in the Dudenhofen district opens after eight weeks of remodelling. Not only is the extended garden centre new, but also the wow concept with service centre.
    • At the academic celebration of the 120th anniversary of TGM SV Jügesheim, Erwin Kneißl is presented with the State Certificate of Honour by District Administrator Peter Walter. Sports district chairman Peter Dinkel awards him the sports district's gold badge of honour.
    • To mark the 50th anniversary of the Rodgau Nature Conservation Association (Nabu), three pyramid oaks are planted in the Nieder-Röder forest. Numerous activities such as dancing, picture presentations, film screenings and bird song walks round off the festive programme.
  • May

    • The "Auto 2008" exhibition on Puiseauxplatz in Nieder-Roden offers various activities over two days. It is the largest exhibition of its kind in the Offenbach district. 17 car brands are presented.
    • The Gänsbrüh is harbouring life again! Common toads, water frogs and alpine newts are sighted and compared by the "Natur aktiv" association.
    • The Rodgau lido in Nieder-Roden opens with water at 11.5 degrees Celsius. A new webcam provides live images of the Nieder-Roden bathing lake around the clock.
    • Heinz Schmidt from SV Diana Jügesheim becomes German champion in target shooting in Sömmerda. Willi Heilmann wins the cup. Pin rifle shooting goes back to a 19th century technique.
    • South Hessian Summer of Culture also in Nieder-Roden: a 1,300 metre long forest path becomes a studio. Numerous artists transform the path to bring nature and art closer to the citizens, especially children.
    • Various primary schools, the Free Music School and the forest kindergarten "Die Wühlmäuse" are represented with various activities such as a nature experience trail.
    • Hainhausen gets a new landmark: On the occasion of the 900th anniversary celebrations, a memorial stone will be erected in the roundabout on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße exactly after the first documentary mention of the district of Hainhausen.
    • The "local threshers" Nicolai Merz, Florian Hoffmann and Max Weil present their self-written Hainhausen song.
    • Thomas Kempf from Hainstadt captures the anniversary of the Hainhausen district on film (anniversary DVD).
    • The municipal council decides that dogs must only be kept on a lead in certain areas, such as schools, kindergartens, parks and squares. Dogs must be kept on leads in forests and fields from 15 February to 15 June each year.
    • The 2007 Culture Prize is awarded to Gerd Steinle from Dudenhöfer for his sculptural works and sculptures as well as for his work in oil and acrylic painting. He is particularly keen to bring children closer to the visual arts.
    • Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule, a primary school in the Dudenhofen district, organises a sponsored run for the first time to beautify the outdoor area and "runs" 7,500 euros in two hours.
    • The tree of the year, the walnut tree, is planted at the Rollwald roundabout to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rodgau Nature Conservation Association (Nabu). Numerous events, lectures, film screenings and musical support from the Nieder-Roden Music Association and the Polyhymnia Singers' Association round off the festive weekend.
    • The first CD by the mandolin orchestra under the direction of Birgit Pezza and Jan Masuhr is released to mark the 85th anniversary of the Wanderclub Edelweiß Dudenhofen.
    • Four teams from TGS Jügesheim achieve great success at the Hesse championships for gymnastics groups in Weiterstadt. The female youth team (12 - 15 years) won the Hesse championship title. The team in the adult master class (18 years and older) is runner-up in the Hesse championships. A group of 12-19 year olds won second place in the "TGW-Nachwuchs" competition class. Three teams qualify for the German Championships in Augsburg.
    • Letter of honour from the state of Hesse to Albert Böres, Heinz Fecher and Gottfried Zilch from the Weiskirchen Small Animal Breeding Association. The honour was presented as part of the association's 100th anniversary celebrations. Mayor Alois Schwab presents the jubilarians with the town's medal of honour in recognition.
    • The most modern filling station in Germany opens for business at the Opel test centre in Dudenhofen. However, only the test drivers can fill up with natural gas, liquid gas and ethanol as well as any of the 12 types of fuel at the 33 pumps. Around 10 million test kilometres are driven on the test track each year.
    • Open Gardens in Rodgau too: this year, eight private gardens in the city area are presenting themselves. In addition, works of art such as watercolours, stoneware ceramics and patchwork quilts) by nine artists can be admired. This event was initiated by Karin Köhler.
    • The Rodgau Monotones have been around for 30 years. Their new CD "Ein Leben für Lärm" will be released at the beginning of May.
  • June

    • The smallest district of Rodgau makes a big splash! To celebrate its 900th anniversary, Hainhausen is putting on a big programme. In addition to merry-go-rounds, there is a 20 metre high Ferris wheel on a fairground. In addition to a tractor exhibition, commemorative coins will be minted and a club Olympics will take place.
    • The Münchhausen School, the Geschwister-Scholl School and the Bodelschwingh School take part with various activities. The highlights of the four-day celebration are fireworks, parachutists and, above all, the parade with over 60 groups in historical costumes.
    • Johanniter-Unfallhilfe maintains a bicycle squadron. Its main area of activity is providing medical support for outdoor sporting events and accompanying parades.
    • The rainwater overflow basin on Mühlweg in Weiskirchen is put into operation on "Environment Day". Equipped with the latest technology, the rainwater overflow basin has a storage capacity of 1,100 cubic metres and cost around three million euros.
    • The TGS Jügesheim organises a Gauturn and Gaukinderurnfest. Despite the changeable weather, around 300 athletes take part in the events on Saturday and around 900 on Sunday. The programme includes 150 competitions, which are watched by 3000 spectators.
    • New record at the 4th Rodgau Duck Race! Around 1,800 squeaky ducks compete in the Rodau in Jügesheim.
    • The event is organised by the Community Development Association (GAV) of the Protestant Emmaus parish. The proceeds are used to co-finance the positions of youth leader and church musician.
    • Beate and Karl-Heinz Mahr from Dudenhofen are sowing Sudan grass and sorghum millet in Rodgau for the first time. They are testing whether the plants can grow in Rodgau and contribute to securing the Dudenhofen farmers' income as an energy crop for biogas production.
    • 17-year-old Jennifer Hof from Jügesheim is chosen as the winner of the ProSieben casting show "Germany's next Topmodel". She can look forward to a contract with C&A and a modelling agency. At this year's Jügesheim Gassenfest, Jenny makes her first appearance in her home town after being chosen. She is showered with autograph requests and gifts.
    • Florian Elbert from TGM SV becomes two-time Hessian champion of the male youth A in the pentathlon and in the sling ball throw as well as Hessian runner-up in the stone throw. His outstanding performances qualified him for the German Championships in Waiblingen.
    • Oak processionary moths are once again causing exclusion zones at four forest recreation centres. Harald Schuster, the expert from Dudenhofen, scrapes off the nests in Rodgau. This process will reduce the infestation next year compared to vacuuming or flaming.
    • Helmut Trageser succeeds the retiring Winfried Ott as an honorary city councillor.
    • "Natur-Kultur" is once again presenting art in the forest near the Don Bosco Home in Nieder-Roden. Thirteen artists, two schools and other partners are involved. Gerd Steinle and Iris Husermann came up with the idea for this event. Numerous workshops are offered for children.
    • A photo exhibition entitled "Snapshots from the world of forgetting" will be presented in the town hall foyer by the municipal senior citizens' counselling service. The photo exhibition has been initiated by the Offenbach district's ageing guidance centre.
    • Felix Dietze, unicyclist from TSV Dudenhofen, wins the gold medal at the German Cup with a high jump over 90 cm. Gold also goes to Melanie Weidmann and Janina Messinger with the pair freestyle "Marily Monroe" in the age group 19 and older. The unicyclists from TSV Dudenhofen also won five silver and one bronze medal.
    • Some local retailers cannot ignore the European Championship fever: the Hiller butcher's shop offers "Lattenkracher", "Eckfahnen" and "Halbzeitschnitten". The Schäfer bakery offers EM-Americans with a football diamond pattern. At Culinara, there are chocolate footballs in beer mugs.
    • Hans Kartschewski becomes German triathlon champion in the age group 60 in Kulmbach.
    • Pastor Hansjörg Rekow is inducted into his office as pastor of the Trinitatis parish in Rodgau-Rembrücken with a festive service.
    • The 5th Carl Orff Run in Jügesheim with more than 400 participants raises 9,500 euros. The amount is earmarked for valuable educational activities.
    • The Weiskirchen fire brigade festival on the occasion of the 80th anniversary with a bouncy castle, play street for children and live music is a complete success. Weiskirchen clubs provide the musical backdrop to the festival.
    • The Claus-von-Stauffenberg School formation under the direction of Willy Spahn takes second place in the 3rd Hessian School Big Band Competition.
    • Rodgau's largest beer garden opens on the TGM SV club grounds to mark the culinary week. As usual, a variety of dishes from the individual divisions will be on offer every day.
    • Eight-year-old Lisa Korten from SV Weiskirchen wins gold at the Hessian Trampolining Championships in Dillenburg. Her club colleague Matthias Schuldt, who is the same age, won silver.
    • The municipal council approves the budget for 2008.
    • To mark the 90th anniversary of the Nieder-Roden Music Society, a joint concert by the Polyhymnia choral society and the Nieder-Roden Music Society "Unter den Linden" will be held for the second time at the beginning of summer. If the weather is fine, the focus will be on pieces of music from well-known musicals.
    • This year's holiday games in Weiskirchen are opened by Mayor Alois Schwab in glorious sunshine. 130 children take part in the two-week holiday games in this district. The weather also plays along at the opening of the holiday games in the Nieder-Roden district.
    • The Frankfurt printing company Hess will move to the Nieder-Röder industrial estate.
    • Dawn Blair prepares for Ironman Germany by winning the Hesse title in the age 45 category. Dieter Dackan wins the title in the age group 65 in Stockelach.

    • The association "Gemeinsam mit Behinderten" (Together with the Disabled) is pleased about the increasing number of members. For the first time, 601 active members are supporting the organisation.
    • Rodgau unicyclists tour the Canadian province of Novo Scotia.
    • The 2008 holiday games open in Rodgau.
    • A commitment to the Rodgau location: Johanniter Unfallhilfe expands its premises in Nieder-Roden by 500 square metres of usable and traffic space.
    • Bürgerhilfe Rodgau celebrates its 20th anniversary - 275 members live the motto "Those who help, are helped".
