    • The Rodgau education fair is being held for the 20th time in the Nieder-Roden district. Visitors can find out about 160 training occupations, 180 degree programmes or dual study programmes and various internships from around 130 exhibitors.
    • A 58-year-old man lies dead in his flat for four to six weeks.
    • Stadtwerke Rodgau is building a new stormwater overflow basin on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße, which marks the end of the implementation of the general drainage plan.
    • In the middle of the night, unknown persons blow up the public bookcase at the town hall after three and a half years of operation.

    • The municipal expert forum "Rodgau educates the future" celebrates its 10th anniversary.
    • Good rating for Stadtwerke Rodgau: According to the survey, citizens see Stadtwerke Rodgau as competent and service-orientated.
    • The Weiskirchen sports club is investing 1.5 million euros in a modern sports facility.
    • Rodgau votes and puts together a new parliament. The CDU has 13, the SPD 12, the Greens, ZmB and AfD 5 each, the FDP 3 and the Rodgau List (consisting of the Free Voters and the Left Party) 2 representatives in the municipal council. The turnout for the district election was 47.6 per cent.
    • More than 200 athletes and breeders are honoured at Rodgau's club gala.
    • Hundreds of spectators attend the annual Easter bonfire organised by the South Fire Brigade.
    • After 52 years in the district council, Paul Scherer is no longer standing for re-election.

    • The film "The Tour for Life" about Andreas Beseler from Rodgau, who suffers from MS, is going on tour in Germany after a very good response from local viewers.
    • An electrically powered boat is used for the first time on the bathing lake in Nieder-Roden.
    • The association "Aktion Rehkitz" (fawn campaign) has achieved positive results in its first year of existence. Up to four fawns per field can be saved by searching the fields on the eve of mowing.
    • The Rodgau Theatre has once again managed to bring numerous stars to Rodgau in the 2016/17 season.
    • On "Science Day", pupils from Rodgau are given an insight into the world of science. The Rodgau volunteer fire brigade practises responding to chemical accidents in a training course.
    • A heavily intoxicated 43-year-old man from Weiskirchen is arrested by several police patrols after firing from a blank firing weapon.
    • The second club merger this year is a success - FTF and RV Germania unanimously merge to form Sportfreunde Rodgau.
    • Herbert Massoth from Weiskirchen is awarded a letter of honour by the state of Hesse for his services to the world of clubs.
    • Anette Schweikart-Paul is the new head of the city council with 22 to 23 votes in the second ballot.
    • Due to a fire in a substation in Seligenstadt, 80,000 people in the Offenbach district are without electricity for hours.

    • Successful lido opening: Around 900 visitors open the swimming season at the Rodgau lido in bright sunshine and with great activities.
    • A cyclist suffers serious injuries when she crosses a road without dismounting and is hit by a car.
    • Almost 600 Rodgau residents take part in the annual clean spring clean, collecting 1.6 tonnes of waste in the city area.
    • The town of Rodgau has once again been awarded the PEFC seal (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) this year for its sustainable and careful forest management programme.
    • The recycling centre moves to Philipp-Reis-Straße 19.
    • Around 150 volunteer firefighters from Rodgau and the surrounding area are deployed for 17 hours to deal with a major fire at a recycling plant in the Jügesheim industrial estate.

    • Mayor Jürgen Hoffmann takes up his new five-year term of office. His oath of office is administered by the newly elected head of the city council, Annette Schweikart-Paul.
    • Rodgau is becoming more densely populated - around 140 new flats are being built in the Hainhausen and Jügesheim districts.
    • Environment Day 2016 will be celebrated at seven locations in Rodgau. Many associations, companies and institutions are helping to make it a success.
    • As part of the Environment Day, Mayor Jürgen Hoffmann hands over two crew transport vehicles, two relay fire engines, a tanker and a logistics equipment vehicle for technical assistance to the Rodgau volunteer fire brigade.
    • From St. Tropez on the quarry pond to Saint Tropez on the Côte d'Azur - Besi & Friends ride together on a 1685-kilometre charity bike ride for the benefit of people with MS.
    • The new cemetery in Nieder-Roden is being renovated at a cost of 125,000 euros.
    • Rodgauer JugendArt at the Dudenhofen youth centre puts the artworks of young artists in the spotlight. The "Fatherland" exhibition shows an artistic examination of the German past.
    • The volunteer fire brigade has put its trust in the tried and tested - Andreas Winter was elected as fire inspector for the fourth time by a large majority. His previous term of office of 15 years will now be extended by a further five years.
    • The children's and youth parliament has been elected and has begun its work. At the constituent meeting, Nelio Elbe was elected as chairman and Claire Zang and Sofie Bonfert as deputies.
    • After five months without a head teacher, the Heinrich Böll School has a new headmaster.
    • Rodgau receives European Diploma - Rodgau is awarded the first level of the European Prize for its town twinning activities and campaigns in the spirit of European understanding and unity.

    • The humid summer stresses people and nature. Flooded fields and the humid weather cause billions of snails.
    • Nature and culture in harmony: 33 artists present their works in the forest and help viewers to experience an unusual encounter.
    • Metal thieves steal a security fence at the S-Bahn station in Dudenhofen.
    • The third Rodgau Summer Sunday attracts citizens with a street food festival, live music and a trial course at seven different locations.
    • Use your smartphone to measure the meter reading or be reminded to put the rubbish outside the door: The Rodau app from Stadtwerke Rodgau offers Rodgau residents lots of useful information and services conveniently via smartphone.
    • Svenja Löw and her father Harald Löw have been running a milk filling station at their farm since July, where people can get fresh milk 24 hours a day.
    • The merger of SKV and TG Hainhausen is notarised, making the Hainhausen sports community "official".
    • Larger and more convenient: the new recycling centre of Stadtwerke Rodgau in Philipp-Reis-Straße opens for business.
    • The new Café Gleis3 in the old Jügesheim railway station building is opened after careful and detailed refurbishment.
    • The Jügesheim Sports and Cultural Association organises the Gaukinderturnfest for the third time with over 900 participants.
    • In future, Rodgau can adorn itself with the European Diploma. Rodgau receives praise for its commitment to spreading the idea of European unification.
    • Excavator on Brötchenweg: The Hainhausen West development area is being prepared for construction. The company Bickardt Bau is laying pipes and building the roads.
    • Flats for 600 to 800 people are to be built in the 11.9-hectare area.
    • A stroke of luck: lightning strikes at the wine festival on Puiseauxplatz in Nieder-Roden, injuring 29 people. 17 of them are taken to hospital with minor injuries.
    • Ground-breaking ceremony at the Netto supermarket in Weiskirchen. More car parking spaces are also being created for residents.
    • The outdoor facilities at the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, the Wilhelm-Busch-Schule and the Claus-Von-Staufenberg-Schule will be redesigned during the summer holidays. The sports facilities at Heinrich-Böll-Schule will be renovated.
    • The state is ordering Rodgau, along with nine other municipalities in the Offenbach district, to levy a misoccupancy tax. Tenants of social housing who earn more than 20 per cent too much will have to pay retroactively from 1 July.
  • August

    • The Offenbach district has set up new shared accommodation for refugees in the Weiskirchen industrial estate. The office building in Boschstraße now provides accommodation for 160 people.
    • Jügesheim bells ring again: After a lightning strike on 30 May, the bells and church clock of St. Nicholas Catholic Church remained silent.
    • The bathing lake attracts visitors with many events: In addition to the after-work music series, an opera in paperback format will delight guests of all ages. The opera "Der Freischütz" is performed in an abridged version. Even rain can't spoil the lido festival. With over 100 participants, the jumping party is a complete success.
    • Almost 900 athletes take part in this year's Rodgau triathlon. Sick and disabled people also perform at their best at this major event.
    • The longest beer bar in Rodgau is in Hainhausen. With a length of 60 metres, the bar is well received at the Kerb.
    • As with the sports halls in Nieder-Roden and Jügesheim, the sports hall in Hainhausen is also getting new lighting. The old mercury vapour lighting will be replaced with new energy-saving LED lights.
    • The new book box on Rathausplatz is inaugurated during the Senior Citizens' Day. After unknown persons blew up the telephone box in February, a replacement was purchased. The participants in the Rodgau 16plus vocational training project worked hard to rebuild the telephone box. Of the approximately 1400 euros cost, 550 euros were donated by citizens.
    • Unknown persons demolish the local fountain in the Hainhäuser street "Zum Wingertsgrund".
    • Member of the municipal council Mika Marek from the AfD resigns from office. As there is no successor, the AfD is no longer represented on the municipal council and now consists of eight people for the remaining term of office.

    • Classical music in the cemetery: A classical concert with the culture prize winner Carmen Lang takes place on the Day of the Cemetery at the Waldfriedhof in Jügesheim.
    • The 24-hour run takes place for the 35th time. 39 teams and five individual runners raise 11,700 euros for a good cause.
    • The Opel Test Centre in Dudenhofen gives visitors a glimpse of the otherwise closed premises at its 50th anniversary open day. 20,000 visitors take the opportunity and don't miss this event.
    • 42 young people start their careers with the city of Rodgau. The majority of the new recruits work in the daycare centres.
    • Magicians, Indians and "the mouse" attract young and old to the 35th children's festival at the forest leisure centre in Jügesheim despite the rain.
    • A peace pole for Rodgau stands in front of the family centre.
    • Under the motto "Stand up against racism", the Jusos are organising a counter-demonstration against the AfD event with the federal chairman Frauke Petry.
    • The largest breakfast table in the region: around 300 pupils from Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule eat breakfast together in the school playground.
    • The city parliament decides to introduce a citizens' question time. The question and answer sessions take place 30 minutes before the city council meetings and are intended to replace the former local advisory councils.

    • The newly built playground on Tucholskyweg in Hainhausen has been opened.
    • The majorities in the city parliament change: ZmB members Martina Sertic, Karlheinz Hackel and Hermann Jäger switch to the FDP parliamentary group.
    • With 73 artists, Rodgauer Art is the largest art exhibition in the Offenbach district. More applicants have registered with the Agency for Culture, Sport and Volunteering than there is space available.
    • The culture prize of the Offenbach district is shared by the Maximal Kulturinitiative Rodgau and the Soundstation choir from Neu-Isenburg.
    • Emergency drill in the forest: Johanniter Unfallhilfe practises for an emergency together with other aid organisations. 60 paramedics and several emergency doctors train for a disaster at a barbecue hut in the forest in Jügesheim.
    • The Sonntagsverein choral society from Nieder-Roden has a distinguished guest for its 140th anniversary. The Mainzer Hofsänger are guests at the sold-out Bürgerhaus Nieder-Roden.
    • The former emergency shelter for the homeless at Mühlweg 12 is making way for a new building. The ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of the construction of two apartment blocks with a total of 12 residential units.
    • Within the space of an hour, two accidents occur on the B45 with many casualties.
  • November

    • A repair café is being set up at Puiseauxplatz. Defective everyday objects can be repaired together with hobbyists.
    • Young companies from Jügesheim present themselves in the VOX television programme "Die Höhle der Löwen". The company "Casino4Home" wins Jochen Schweizer as a partner for its business.
    • The speed limit on Rodgau Ring Straße, Offenbacher Landstraße and Alfred-Delp-Straße near the soot factory will be raised to 70. The only exception is still on Rodgau Ring Straße near the lido. Here, the speed limit remains at 50 kilometres per hour during the summer months.
    • At the kick-off event for the Rodgau-West area development, citizens can contribute their ideas and suggestions for the 46-hectare area in the planning zone between Hainhausen and Jügesheim.
    • Tarek Al-Wazir, Hessian Minister for Economics, Energy, Transport and Regional Development, visits the Georg Büchner School in Jügesheim to find out more about teaching the children of refugees and immigrants in so-called intensive classes. The pupils will receive gym bags and other school equipment as a pre-Christmas gift.
    • The childcare building at the Wilhelm-Busch-Schule in Jügesheim is handed over after just under eight months of construction. The new 1.185 million euro building will create 150 new childcare places.
  • December

    • The city parliament decides to sell the area on Falkenweg in Hainhausen as part of the playground development concept. The kids have an alternative play area on the opposite side.
    • The Medical Licensing Committee rejects the expansion of Dr Hinkel's paediatric practice.
    • The city puts the brakes on residents with a "green thumb": private individuals are not allowed to work independently and carry out planting in public areas.
    • The new bus route 58 goes into operation. A bus runs eleven times a day from Weiskirchen via Seligenstadt, Mainhausen, Mainaschaff to Aschaffenburg and back. The one-way journey takes about an hour.
    • The cooperation between the SPD, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, FDP and Rodgauer Liste set out the content of their cooperation until 2021 in a position paper. With a majority of 24 votes, they have the majority in the city parliament.
    • A 29-year-old man is run over on the A3 in the night of 17 December.
    • Hospice with a view of the water tower: The first inpatient hospice in the Offenbach district is to be located at the Rodgau landmark. The city parliament decides on the development plan.
    • Bernd Jörs from Jügesheim is one of four university lecturers in Germany to receive the "Professor of the Year" award from the magazine "Unicum Beruf".
