    • Corona brings an extraordinary New Year's Eve. The burning of fireworks is prohibited and there is a curfew throughout the Offenbach district between 9 pm and 5 am. Celebrating in private is only permitted with a maximum of 5 people, so most families stay at home together.
    • Besi&Friends" is kicking off the new year with a sporty hands-on programme. As motivation, small prizes will be raffled off every week among all participants.
    • Dentist Steffen Swoboda declares war on corona with an anti-virus varnish. Thanks to the self-disinfecting paint, all coated surfaces are now 99.9% germ-free. EVR's car-sharing vehicles are also equipped with the paint and thoroughly disinfected on a regular basis. The car singers are also adapting to the situation and in many places are only travelling occasionally and under strict conditions.
    • Good idea: the blessing is sent by post and brings joy to many homes. After an earthquake in the Petrinja region of Croatia, members of Sportfreunde Rodgau e.V. joined forces with Croatian friends to collect winter clothing and non-perishable food. The Rodgau residents' willingness to donate is so great that around 20 helpers spend half a day sorting and packing.
    • The artwork "Risky twists and turns" by Düsseldorf artist Manuel Franke hanging in the stairwell of the town hall is causing a lot of discussion on Facebook.

    • With kiosk hours and a book surprise bag, the municipal library is resisting the coronavirus restrictions.
    • The city of Rodgau is supporting the local catering landscape during the coronavirus pandemic with a €200,000 aid package. The free "Genießt-Lokal" vouchers worth 5 euros can be ordered from the city by Rodgau residents.
    • The restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic are causing people to get creative. Children and parents from the Catholic daycare centre Sankt Nikolaus say goodbye to their deputy director Anette Bonifer with a registered motorcade.
    • A video online at rodgau-west.de provides information about the individual planning steps for Rodgau West.
    • The 25th Rodgau Education Fair not only presents itself in a different format, but also with a new event team: The city of Rodgau is going online together with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce due to the lockdown restrictions. 90 exhibitors and 2,300 visitors are taking part and exchanging over 50,000 chat messages.
    • The SG Hainhausen coaching team gets creative during lockdown. Because handball training is forbidden, the youth teams build playing fields out of sweets, Lego bricks and Playmobil under the guidance of the coaches, and then put together different moves.
    • The first underfloor glass containers in Rodgau are located in the Neubaugebet Hainhausen district. The design and larger capacity help to reduce noise and save costs by emptying fewer containers.
    • The city of Rodgau is providing 200,000 euros in a "Pandemic Impact Culture Support Fund" for Rodgau cultural professionals and providers who are suffering financial losses due to event cancellations caused by the pandemic.
    • After around one and a half years, the remodelling work on the Kreuzberg daycare centre in Rollwald has been completed. The complete remodelling of the daycare centre, including the outdoor area, planning and ancillary costs, cost around 700,000 euros.
    • The town of Rodgau is also investing money in the digitalisation of its daycare centres. The town is investing around 370,000 euros in upgrading its 15 daycare centres. Each of the 70 groups now has a laptop and Wi-Fi access.
    • At the online general meeting of TSV Dudenhofen, the majority vote in favour of building a new sports hall. The ground-breaking ceremony must take place by the end of June so that the approximately 300,000 euros in funding from the Offenbach district and the state of Hesse can be utilised.
    • Clearing work on the corner of Babenhäuser Straße and Ostring in Jügesheim uncovers a bunker from the Second World War.

    • First coronavirus easing since December: hairdressers are allowed to reopen under strict regulations from 1 March. Retailers will be allowed to open from 8 March. However, the incidence rate skyrockets again, which is why they have to close again.
    • At the beginning of the month, the town of Rodgau is equipping each group in its 15 daycare centres with CO2 air measuring devices. These indicate when the air in a room is stale and needs to be ventilated.
    • A new "clean-up crew" from Stadtwerke Rodgau, a mobile city cleaning service, ensures a tidier cityscape in Rodgau.
    • Max Breitenbach, 30 years old, enters the ring as the first candidate for mayor. The municipal and foreigners' advisory council elections take place under coronavirus conditions. Around 1/3 of all voters vote by post, the voter turnout is 50.3%. For the next five years, parliamentarians from the CDU 14, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen 8, SPD 8, FDP 4, AfD 3, ZmB 3, Freie Wähler Rodgau 2, Tierschutzpartei 2 and DIE LINKE 1 will sit on the municipal council.
    • After the devastating storm in August 2019, reforestation began with the planting of 12,000 young English oaks and 100 one-year-old bird cherry trees on two hectares. The tree species should be better able to withstand heat and drought.
    • The Georg Büchner School is one of three schools in Hesse to receive an award from the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs. The school has been awarded the so-called "eTwinning" seal, which recognises the school's European orientation as well as its role model function in terms of digital learning, internet safety and innovative educational approaches.

    • The conversion of the old school in Jügesheim into a 2-group daycare centre continues to take shape. A particular challenge in this construction project is maintaining a balance between monument protection, fire protection and the regulations for building a day care centre. The opening is planned for the summer.
    • The city of Rodgau is providing a sum of 30,000 euros per year until 2023 for the removal of gravel gardens. This financial incentive is intended to help replace the supposedly lower-maintenance gravel gardens with more visually appealing plantings that are more suitable for nature and insects.
    • The Weiskirchen test centre is temporarily suspending appointments for the free Corona citizen rapid tests. The reason for this is the lack of reimbursement from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.
    • Rodgau takes part in Federal President Walter Steinmeier's call for a collective, nationwide memorial service for those who have died from or after a coronavirus infection. The flags at the town hall fly at half-mast and Mayor Jürgen Hoffmann and First City Councillor Michael Schüßler silently commemorate the dead at the town hall fountain.
    • The documentation of the Lower Monument Authority around the World War II bunker uncovered in February has been completed and it is being backfilled with earth. The entire site and the footpath around it are being redesigned.
    • The "Gude-Steine Rodgau" group supports the "Wildtierarche Rodgau" with a donation. 5,000 euros have been raised through donation baskets in Rodgau's retail outlets or by auctioning off painted stones.
    • The digital offering of the public libraries is being further expanded. In addition to learning programmes, virtual children's events and the lending of e-books, it is now also possible to watch films free of charge with the library card via the streaming platform "Filmfriend.de".

    • May begins in Dudenhofen with the traditional erection of the maypole by the Dudenhofen trade association. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, this year's event will once again take place without background music and without a beer tapping.
      • Michael Schüßler is put forward as the second candidate for mayor.
      • The second "Buy local" voucher project, which has already been approved by the city parliament, is activated and is intended to support the closure of shops in Rodgau's specialised trade and service sectors due to the ordinance. The city is subsidising the project with 50,000 euros.
      • With the "Cycle to work" campaign, the ADFC and the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkassen are offering an incentive to switch to cycling in everyday life. During the campaign period from May to August, people who cycle to work at least 20 times can take part in a prize draw.
      • The city of Rodgau is planting insect-friendly flowering plants along the Rodau. The aim is to promote the biodiversity of native insect species in particular on the 2,500 square metres of designated seeded areas.
      • After attending the municipal education project "Rodgau 16Plus", 3 young people are starting their training as tool mechanics at Henkel. The apprenticeship starts on 1 September.
      • The Jügesheim sports and culture club JSK is the club with the most members in the Offenbach sports district, according to the state sports association.
      • A large-scale operation calls the fire brigade to the "Chinamauer" in the Nieder-Roden district. A fire breaks out in a kitchen there in the evening. Several people suffer smoke inhalation and 4 firefighters are injured. Fire brigades and rescue services are deployed with more than 40 vehicles. Damage totalling several 100,000 euros is caused.
      • The association "Aktion Rehkitz" rescues two deer from overgrown meadows during a search walk and the mowing work can be carried out without harming wild animals.
      • Wernz Elektro GmbH is characterised by employee loyalty and outstanding training. It was honoured with the German Entrepreneur Award for this.
  • June

    • The traffic lights at Rodgau's busiest junction between Jügesheim and Dudenhofen are out of action for several days. Traffic jams and the risk of accidents are inevitable. HessenMobil wants to rectify the fault as quickly as possible by replacing the main circuit board.
    • Rodgau once again takes part in the "City Cycling" campaign organised by the European Climate Alliance. The new cycle path between Hainhausen and Rembrücken is officially opened.
    • The "500 trees for Rodgau" project continues and the magistrate commissions the planting of the next 122 trees.
    • Martin Bepple and Tobias Krauße from Rodgau are walking the Way of St James for a good cause. During their pilgrimage, they want to collect donations for "Mainlichtblick e. V.", which uses the money to fulfil the heartfelt wishes of sick children.
    • A few days before the opening of the lido, a body is found floating in the water. It is the swimmer who has been missing for 4 years. Nevertheless, the Rodgau lido opens as planned, albeit with mixed feelings among guests and staff. This year too, the reduced number of visitors, hygiene concept and Corona ticket system are taking their toll.
    • There is a fire on the grounds of the recycling centre. A good 20 tonnes of a 70-tonne mountain of commercial waste has caught fire. The extinguishing work lasts until the early hours of the morning.
    • Gravel extraction in Dudenhofen is to be extended until 2051. The town councillors agree to this on condition that 28 hectares of forest are reforested on site.
    • After one year, the town of Rodgau has drawn a positive balance from the traffic trial on Dudenhöfer Straße. The permitted speed remains limited to 30 km/h and parking spaces are marked on the road. The experience gained is intended to have an impact beyond the district and will be incorporated into local traffic planning.

    • At the lido, 20 bike boxes offer theft and weather protection for bikes. E-bikes can also be charged in the boxes.
    • The ADFC Rodgau, together with the town, has launched a new initiative to promote mutual consideration in road traffic. Striking "heart stickers" thank you for attentive and prudent behaviour in road traffic.
    • The 5th Rodgauer Lachnacht was actually supposed to take place in January - but corona put a spanner in the works. Now the laugh muscles will be strained at a rescheduled date in the Nieder-Roden community centre.
    • After more than a year, the Weiskirchen Local History Museum welcomes visitors again and opens with an exhibition on the history of the Weiskirchen Kerb.
    • Sportfreunde Rodgau celebrate the topping-out ceremony at the "EVO Sportfabrik".
    • The participants in the traditional "Steini Run" at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule ran a total of 5,550 kilometres and donated 8,500 euros to the charity fund.
    • The municipal council and the city council are both against an approach procedure to Frankfurt Airport. The procedure is intended to guide arriving aircraft in curves to the landing approach and thus distribute the noise pollution.
    • Heavy rainfall causes flooding and undermining in large parts of Germany. Entire areas are destroyed within a short space of time. This natural disaster prompted private individuals and companies in Rodgau to donate relief supplies worth 100,000 euros to the affected areas. These included food, hay for animals, cleaning materials, financial support and personal labour on site.
    • In the second year of the coronavirus pandemic, the town of Rodgau is once again offering holiday care for children.
    • The new functional building at Rodgau lido is finished and now also offers visitors great comfort in the sanitary area. The old operations building burnt down in March 2018.
    • A 40-year-old woman dies in hospital after getting into difficulties at the Rodgau lido, despite rescue efforts. That same weekend, a boy has a fatal swimming accident. The lido remains closed for a week.
    • Pastor Axel Mittelstädt leaves the Protestant Emmaus parish in Jügesheim to become a school pastor at a Darmstadt school.
    • After a year's break, three Weiskirch clubs are celebrating a "beer garden edition" of the traditional Kerb. The event takes place on a weekend under the 3-G rule.
  • August

    • After ten months of construction, the Weiskirchen-Nord motorway service station on the A3 is opened. The new service area replaces the approximately 60-year-old facility, which was demolished in 2020.
    • People are actively involved in the urban redevelopment of Dudenhofen. During an online citizens' assembly, participants can express their suggestions, thoughts and wishes regarding the car park concept presented. Some points are forwarded to the planning office.
    • The Rodgau sports clubs invest a lot of money and personal commitment in their sports facilities: SG Nieder-Roden installs a new floodlight system and a fitness corner with a children's playground opens on the grounds of TC Jügesheim.
    • With 40 standard public charging points operated by the municipal utility subsidiary Energieversorgung Rodau GmbH, Rodgau has the most charging stations in the Offenbach district. A total of 176 electric cars are registered in Rodgau. The number of hybrid cars is 612.
    • The Hainhäuser Kerb takes place at the forest leisure centre. The festival is the first forest festival in two years.
    • Rodgauer:innen would like to help the farmers and animals in the Ahrweiler district affected by the floods by donating hay and transport logistics.
    • TSG Rodgau receives 13,950 euros in funding from the Hessian state government's "Ehrenamt digitalisiert" funding programme for the "Menschen vereinen - Geschäftsstelle 2.0" project. The Weiskirchen music club celebrates the inauguration of the "Rodau-Strom-Tonhalle". The music association's new rehearsal and storage room can now be found at the address "Am Sportfeld 21a".

    • KITA 19 in the Alte Schule Jügesheim opens its two Ü3 groups for 50 children. On the same day, a new adventure begins for almost 500 first-graders.
    • In order to make the centre of Jügesheim car-free, the town of Rodgau is conducting a traffic trial and turning part of Hintergasse into a pedestrian zone on four Saturdays in September. The aim is to improve the quality of life.
    • The Catholic parish in Jügesheim celebrates the 150th anniversary of the consecration of St Nicholas Church. Bishop Peter Kohlgraf of Mainz is also present at the start of the festive year.
    • Due to coronavirus, the "Calida" dance group from SG Nieder-Roden will only receive the "Team of the Year 2019" award this year. First City Councillor Michael Schüßler and Head of Sports Winfried Sahm present the certificate. The honourees took part in the World Jazz and Modern Dance Championships in Poland, making Rodgau "widely known".
    • All good things come in threes: after being cancelled in 2020 and postponed in May, Rodgau Jugend-Art is finally taking place. A diverse range of artworks to look at and do-it-yourself workshops attract many people to the Dudenhofen youth centre.
    • After four years of preparation, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new medical and health centre in Dudenhofen takes place. The cost of the medical centre is around 16 million euros.
    • The "Gemeinsam mit Behinderten" association is once again organising the 24-hour run online due to the coronavirus pandemic. The run celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2021 and raises 77,777 euros in donations.
    • After 47 years, the traditional and popular ice cream parlour Eis-Bayer in Dudenhofen is closing its doors.
    • The "Mapathon" project group of the "Sustainable in Rodgau Initiative" wants to improve the cycle path network. In cooperation with the ADFC and with the involvement of suggestions from the population, an elaborate digital map was created that depicts the desired cycle path network. The Committee for the Environment, Energy and Transport is given an insight into the initiative's ideas.
    • This year, the children's painting campaign took place again under the existing Corona conditions. The little ones were able to give free rein to their creativity in chalk artworks on Puiseauxplatz in Nieder-Roden. The children clearly enjoyed the event.
    • During a site inspection in Rollwald, residents express their wishes for the "Rollwald development plan" and can also submit them online or by letter.
    • Max Breitenbach (CDU) is elected as the next mayor of the town of Rodgau. He wins with 52.3% of the vote against Michael Schüßler (FDP). The inauguration will take place in June 2022.
    • The city council approves the plans for major changes in Hegelstrasse. Among other things, three development plans have to be amended to allow the entire area to be reorganised.

    • The senior citizens' group of the Diversity Working Group launches a new project with the "neighbourhood tour". The new 2G rule in Rodgau's pubs receives a lot of praise as well as some hostility for the landlords.
    • Oliver Meyer is elected as the new city fire inspector of the Rodgau fire service, replacing Andreas Winter after more than 20 years in office. Peter Riedel becomes his deputy.
    • The open mosque day is organised by the youth group of the Rodgau Ahmaddiyya community with a bike tour to their fellow believers in Offenbach.
    • Free surfing in Rodgau is being further expanded. Public Wi-Fi hotspots are now integrated in all neighbourhoods. The next long-term goal is to establish a hotspot at the Strandband.
    • The parking situation is coming to a head and is causing a stir: the town of Rodgau is taking measures in the form of fines for parking on pavements. In future, pavement parking is to be banned throughout the city.
    • The Asklepios Heart Circle Run takes place in Rodgau for the first time. 160 people of all ages take part in the Maingau-Energie-Stadion. The town of Rodgau takes part in the intercultural weeks, which take place throughout the Offenbach district under the motto "#offen geht" (#opengoes), with digital and analogue events.
    • JSK Rodgau opens its second artificial pitch on the grounds of the Maingau-Energie-Stadion with the help and support of the district of Offenbach, the city of Rodgau, Stadtwerke Rodgau, Glaabsbräu, Harema and many more. The pitch is inaugurated with a match against Kickers Offenbach.
    • The art exhibition "Rodgau Art" returns to the Bürgerhaus Nieder-Roden after last year's cancellation due to the coronavirus. 78 artists do the honours.
    • At a public event in Dudenhofen, residents have the opportunity to formulate their ideas and expectations for the design of the old town centre of Dudenhofen.
    • Shortage of paediatricians: Due to a lack of interested parties, the vacant practice will be returned to the landlord by the town. This means that only two paediatrician positions remain in Rodgau.
    • The band "Bird's View" is honoured with the cultural award of the city of Rodgau.

    • For the first time after the Corona break, the Martinszug will take place again in Jügesheim in compliance with the general hygiene rules.
    • The Association for Multinational Understanding Rodgau (Munavero) and the town of Rodgau commemorate the hundreds of murdered Jews and the destroyed synagogues, cemeteries, shops and homes in the Weiskirchen community centre on the occasion of the pogrom night 83 years ago.
    • Yellow bags are in short supply: Remondis can no longer supply a large part of the district due to a shortage of raw materials.
    • After a year of waiting, the Rodgau carnival clubs usher in the "fifth season" with the night parade organised by Sportfreunde Rodgau. Princess Nadja I. and Jan I. are the new prince and princess.
    • Digitalisation is on the advance: the Carl-Orff-Schule is the first school in the Offenbach district to receive 14 digital boards (interactive displays) for lessons.
    • More subsidy for clubs: Following a unanimous decision by the city council, the city of Rodgau will now provide a grant of 300,000 euros instead of the previous 200,000 euros for club investments next year.
    • More than 50 people commemorate the victims of war and tyranny during the Nazi regime at the memorial in the former cemetery of the Rollwald prison camp on Remembrance Day.
    • The Rodgau Advent market has been cancelled due to the coronavirus situation. The wishing tree campaign in front of the town hall will take place as planned.
    • The municipal cultural agency is organising a concert in the mourning hall of the Waldfriedhof cemetery for the seventh time on the first Advent. Musical singer Ilka Ludwig and up-and-coming guitarist Jakob Gramß will accompany the programme.
    • A fire breaks out during a chemistry experiment at the Georg Büchner School in Jügesheim. 1000 pupils are evacuated. There are no injuries.

    • The "Dreieich-Zeitung" is discontinued after 51 years.
    • The Hospice Foundation Rotary Rodgau (HSRR) is honoured for its commitment as 2nd prize winner in the Medical Award Charity category at the German Medical Award.
    • The Rodau is being renaturalised: In Rodau Park, the stream is being widened and made more structured and more natural with a gravel bank and different slope gradients. Logs on the banks invite you to linger.
    • Rodgau is the first town in the Offenbach district to set up a hydrogen refuelling station. The Stadtwerke Group will be responsible for the planning, construction and operation. The planned location is at the cross-city link to Seligenstadt, opposite the VGP business park.
    • The 2021 Culture Prize of the City of Rodgau goes to 58-year-old jazz musician Thomas "Tom" Schüler.
    • In future, the property tax rate will rise from 450 points to 700 points in order to balance the city's budget and finance infrastructure work in the city, daycare centres and much more.
    • The first Rodgau vaccination night in Dudenhofen provides more than 400 people with a vaccination against Covid-19.
    • Creative ideas in times of corona: on Christmas Eve, windows and doors open in Dudenhofen and the whole town makes music and sings together to Christmas carols such as "O du fröhlich" and "Stille Nacht".
    • A complete success: 110 children receive presents, which are distributed personally, at the wish tree campaign organised by the town of Rodgau.
