Building yard

With 50 employees, the building yard is the service provider for the citizens of Rodgau. It also works for various departments of the Rodgau municipal administration and departments of Stadtwerke Rodgau. The building yard has 58 vehicles, including a large number of electric vehicles and numerous small appliances, which are maintained and repaired in its own workshop.

Green maintenance

Rodgau is a green city and the municipal utilities also ensure this. Our job is to maintain and clean the public green spaces in the city centre. We prune ground cover, care for shrubs and other activities such as hedge trimming, tree planting and lawn mowing in the following areas of the city:

  • Parks
  • Cemeteries
  • Rodau floodplain
  • Public sports facilities
  • Roadside greenery
  • Bridges

The team comprises a total of 30 employees. The green maintenance activities are carried out in close coordination with the city of Rodgau.

City cleaning

There is a lot to do to keep Rodgau a clean city. With 8 employees and two sweepers, we take care of local cleanliness. We take care of

  • Removal of litter
  • Cleaning of squares, roads and paths, including cycle paths
  • Emptying public litter bins and rubbish bins
  • Removal of rubbish from playgrounds and parks

Cleaning is carried out on fixed tours and as required.

Playground maintenance

Playgrounds are a "piece" of Rodgau's quality of life. We look after the playground equipment and its usability in the municipal and church playgrounds on a daily basis. To ensure road safety on playgrounds, they are checked weekly and once a year the stability of the facilities and play equipment is checked.

The following work is carried out regularly:

  • Maintenance and cleaning of the playgrounds
  • Emptying the waste bins
  • Assembly and repair of play equipment
  • Repair and renewal of play areas and equipment in the daycare centres
  • Regular inspection of play equipment and repair of vandalism and other damage

Facility management

Among other things, the building yard has its own carpentry shop and workshop as well as expertise in the sanitary sector. With a team of currently 3 employees, repairs of all kinds are carried out in all properties of the city administration and Stadtwerke Rodgau.

The range of tasks includes:

  • Manufacture, repair and customisation of furniture and furnishings
  • Maintenance and repair work on tiles, doors and windows
  • Complete bathroom refurbishments in collaboration with the sanitary and heating engineers and all-rounders
  • Dry construction and painting work
  • Repairs to interior and exterior plaster
  • Locksmith work
  • Repairs to all sanitary objects and pipes in municipal flats and properties
  • Installation of new equipment in the bathrooms and washrooms of the day-care centres

Winter service

The winter road clearance service ensures that important traffic areas are passable and that pavements and bus stops are safe for pedestrians in icy and snowy conditions. In the event of a sudden onset of winter, a fixed plan is in place to coordinate the numerous emergency services and resources. Five ice detection systems in the streets provide early warning of icy conditions and enable reliable and safe deployment planning.

Trading is based on three spreading/winter service levels:

Level 1

  • Level 1 roads are the main thoroughfares and crossroads in Rodgau
  • This also includes the S-Bahn crossings
  • To ensure that these roads and paths are passable, the winter road clearance service starts in the early hours of the morning

Level 2

  • Level 2 roads are the access roads in our city
  • If stage 1 is fulfilled and it has not snowed again, the plans provide for the clearing and gritting of downstream roads

Level 3

  • In level 3 , gritting is only carried out in special exceptional cases (e.g. if access for an ambulance has to be ensured)
  • There is no regular gritting service in these residential and side streets

  • How is scattering done?

    • Stadtwerke Rodgau spreads in an environmentally friendly way
    • The vehicles are equipped with pre-wetted salt spreaders
    • The dry salt stored on the vehicle is moistened shortly before it is applied to the road surface so that it adheres well to slippery surfaces and cannot simply slip away
    • In addition, even small amounts of road salt achieve good de-icing effects with this method - and this keeps the environmental impact as low as possible
    • We keep an eye on the moderate use of personnel and gritting material and react at short notice based on constant contact with the weather services and on the reports from our own de-icing systems
