With Jane Goodall among the wild chimpanzees

Reading with Maja Nielsen for children aged 8 and over

Author Maja Nielsen will be a guest at the Nieder-Roden public library on 15 January and will be reading from her latest children's non-fiction book "Mit Jane Goodall bei den wilden Schimpansen" from 5 pm. Jane Goodall, the world's most famous primate researcher, died in October 2025 at the age of 91. Even as a child, she loved observing animals. Her biggest dream was to one day live in the jungle like Tarzan and get up close to the wild animals there. And she has made this dream come true. As a young woman, she was given the opportunity to travel to Africa. In Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park, she lives with a group of wild chimpanzees, which she observes and names. She begins to describe their behaviour in detail, how they climb, hunt and communicate with each other. The realisation that chimpanzees, like humans, have feelings, can be happy and sad and help each other goes back to Jane's observations. She gets closer to chimpanzees than anyone else before her and realises that their habitats are under threat. From then on, Jane Goodall became an advocate for animal and nature conservation and emphasised the importance of respecting animals and protecting our environment. Maja Nielsen inspires adventurous and curious children aged 8 and over with Jane Goodall's exciting life story. Participation in the event is free of charge after prior registration. Registrations can be made in person, by telephone on 06106 693 1322 or by e-mail to buecherei@rodgau.de.
