What has happened since then
The community work programme in Nieder-Roden will close its doors for good on 31 December. Since its launch in 2022, it has initiated, supported and run numerous projects, events, festivals and social activities – both large and small – thereby actively fostering a sense of community in the neighbourhood. Working together with local residents, clubs, social organisations and volunteers, a wide range of activities has been organised over the past few years. These included, amongst other things, neighbourhood festivals, playground get-togethers, language cafés, playgroups, reading schemes and physical activity programmes for young children, intergenerational social events, as well as other activities for children, young people and families.
Tasks and objectives
The focus was on the residents of Nieder-Rodens and their needs. Bringing people together in conversation, facilitating participation and strengthening social cohesion in the neighbourhood were among the main objectives of this project. The community work programme acted as a point of contact for residents and as a hub for connecting local stakeholders. Many projects could only be realised through the dedicated collaboration with partners and volunteers. On behalf of the community work team of the town of Rodgau, social worker Rafael Ledwig, social worker Marei Binder and student assistant Zehra Acikgöz would like to thank once again all residents, the partner organisations and the numerous volunteers and contributors for their commitment and support over the past few years. The project has demonstrated just how much can be achieved through community involvement and a strong sense of togetherness in the neighbourhood.
What happens next?
The networks that have been established and the momentum that has been generated will continue to shape Nieder-Roden even after the project has come to an end. Some projects, such as the popular gaming programme for young people run by the community outreach team, will be taken over by the library. The Foreign Residents’ Advisory Board will continue to organise the neighbourhood festival in Seestraße in the coming years. The family centre in Jügesheim has gratefully received equipment – two raised beds, gardening gloves, gardening aprons and rakes – from the ‘Gardening Together’ project. In addition, the urban development programme ‘Social Cohesion’ will soon be making its presence felt in Nieder-Roden.
