The forestry department looks after large parts of the Rodgau municipal forest, which has an operational area of around 2,118 hectares.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Motorised manual timber harvesting
- Traffic safety measures
- Young stock maintenance and
- Recreational function such as the maintenance of the trim trail for citizens
- Commissioning of the service provider Hessen-Forst and joint management of the municipal forest
- Provision of both forest rangers (foresters) by Hessen-Forst
- Provision of wood certificates for firewood from the Rodgau municipal forest via Holzkontor Darmstadt-Dieburg-Offenbach
Predominant tree species in the urban forest:
- 85% the pine tree
- Oak 8%
- Beech 4%
- Other (spruce, Douglas fir, etc.) 3%.
The annual felling amounts to around 12,000 cubic metres of wood per year with a commitment to sustainable forest management (= no more wood is felled than grows back in the year of felling) The Rodgau municipal forest is FSC and PEFC certified and is therefore subject to additional special controls and requirements.
