Set up a no stopping zone

Exceptions and authorisations in traffic
  • Service description

In certain individual cases or for certain applicants, exceptions to stopping and parking bans may be authorised.

  • Procedure

Would you like to have a no stopping zone set up? You need an application for this.

  • Which documents are required?

Written application (usually informal) with details of the name, address, telephone number of the applicant, date, duration (time), details of the local conditions of the place (are there already traffic restrictions, parking ticket machines, pedestrian zone, etc.), length of the required no-stopping zone, vehicle registration number of the vehicle, if applicable with the permissible total weight of the vehicle.

  • What fees are incurred?

The amount of the fee varies from city to city (municipality) and also depends on the type and duration of the stopping ban. The scale of charges for road traffic measures provides for a range of charges from 10.20 euros to 767 euros. The local road traffic authority can provide information on the exact amount of the fee.

  • What deadlines do I have to observe?

For legal reasons, stopping restrictions must always be put in place at least 3 - 4 days before they come into force. The application must therefore be received in good time (ideally about 14 days in advance). Applications submitted at shorter notice should be agreed in advance by telephone with the responsible road traffic authority; it may also be possible to send the application by fax/email, which can save time.

  • Legal basis

  • Applications / Forms

Written application (usually informal). Some StVB have forms available for completion; in some cases it is possible to download an application form from the homepage of the authorisation authority.

  • What else should I know?

Official traffic signs may only be erected if they have previously been ordered by the competent traffic authority. The competent authority issues an order following an application. It contains information on how the area in question must be signposted. The traffic signs in question may only be erected once the order has been received. The applicant is responsible for the installation, which means that the traffic signs must be procured from a specialised company. As a rule, the StVB does not have its own stock of traffic signs. In individual cases, it is also possible to borrow traffic signs from the depot of the local municipality/city (for a fee). It is advisable to enquire about the procedure with the responsible StVB (by telephone).

  • Remarks

It is advisable to contact the responsible StVB in advance by telephone to coordinate and clarify the details.
