  • Service description

    Adult education centres (VHS) are public adult education institutions at local level and contribute to lifelong learning for adults.

    Adult education centres act on a public mandate and are not subject to ideological or commercial interests. As an independent part of the education system, they cooperate with a wide variety of organisations in order to combine the content of their programmes with the goals of adult education and in this sense make a significant contribution to the social, intellectual and cultural development of citizens.

    The adult education centres in Hesse offer a comprehensive range of general, political, cultural and vocational education in the form of lectures, courses, seminars, workshops, study groups, discussion groups etc. for general or further education. The VHS education programme covers the basic areas of vocational qualification, preparation for school-leaving qualifications, history, politics, psychology, philosophy, art, regional and local studies, natural sciences, technology, artistic and handicraft design, languages, home economics and health education.
