Service description
The Public Health Service will provide you with general information on certain notifiable infectious diseases, e.g: What should you do in the event of an infection or outbreak? What are the transmission routes? How great is the risk of infection? How can I protect myself and my family?
As a supervisory authority, a municipal health department ensures public hygiene and the implementation of infection protection in its area of responsibility.
As the lower health authority, it advises citizens and institutions on questions relating to infection hygiene and health issues.
One of the sovereign tasks of the Public Health Service (ÖGD) is also the infection hygiene monitoring of medical facilities in accordance with the Infection Protection Act. The responsible public health department carries out infection hygiene inspections in medical and public facilities and advises on hygiene deficiencies or local outbreaks of infectious diseases.
The ÖGD advises the population on vaccinations, the prevention of communicable diseases and on all topics relating to drinking water and bathing water hygiene. the advice is free of charge for citizens and is given anonymously.

Counselling from the ÖGD (Public Health Service) is free of charge.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
Infection hygiene counselling is not subject to any deadlines.
Processing time
Your local health authority will advise you either during consultation hours, by telephone or by e-mail. The processing time and intensity of counselling varies depending on the topic and individual case. If there is an urgent and rapid need for action from an infection hygiene perspective, processing will be prioritised.

The ÖGD (Public Health Service) is the third pillar of the healthcare system alongside outpatient and inpatient medical care. The ÖGD deals with population-related health issues and focusses on prevention, e.g. the prevention of infectious diseases.
The public health department looks after citizens in its area of responsibility who have difficulty accessing standard healthcare or who live under difficult social conditions.
