Extending your driving licence to category L
Service description
You can extend your driving licence to include category L.
The category L driving licence is the ''small'' tractor driving licence. It allows you to carry out agricultural or forestry work at the age of 16, but only at a maximum speed of 40 km/h and a maximum speed of 25 km/h with a trailer.
Procedure
You must submit an application to extend your driving licence to category L to the driving licence authority responsible for you.
Responsible office
The responsibility lies with the driving licence authority.
Prerequisites
- You must be in possession of a driving licence
- You must have your main place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
- You must have reached the minimum age of 16 (§ 10 Driving Licence Ordinance).
Which documents are required?
- Appointment of a driving school
- Identity card or passport (including registration certificate if applicable)
- current driving licence
- a current biometric photograph, in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (35 x 45 mm, portrait format, frontal photograph); information and examples can be found in the photo sample table of the Bundesdruckerei (Federal Printing Office)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
- Proof of eyesight according to Annex 6 No. 1.1 to the FeV (not older than 2 years)
What fees are incurred?
The driving licence authority charges fees in accordance with the scale of fees for road traffic measures.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The practical test must be taken within twelve months of passing the theory test. Otherwise, the theoretical examination loses its validity.
