Drainage authorisation
Service description
A drainage licence is required for the connection to and use of the public wastewater system. Changes to the property drainage system, to the wastewater conditions on which the drainage authorisation is based or to the connection to the wastewater system require a modification permit.
The cities and municipalities have defined discharge conditions for wastewater in their drainage bylaws in order to ensure the proper operation of the sewerage system and sewage treatment plant. When issuing a drainage licence, they also decide whether pre-treatment of the wastewater is required, particularly in the industrial and commercial sector.
According to the Hessian Water Act, there is also a special authorisation requirement for the discharge of certain types of wastewater that may contain hazardous substances, unless an exception to this authorisation requirement results from the Indirect Discharger Ordinance. The competent lower water authority can provide information on this. The disposal of rainwater via the municipal sewage system also requires a drainage licence.
