Service description
To enable the pension insurance fund to check whether you are still alive and still entitled to your pension, it can ask you for a so-called life certificate.
You can provide this proof in two ways:- With a special form that is confirmed by an authorised body (e.g. an office or authority) or
- Digital, via a special procedure for electronic proof of life.
Procedure
You can have the completed form for the life certificate confirmed in person at the relevant office. You can find out which offices are usually responsible for this directly from the form.
Alternatively, you can also provide proof of life digitally by using the special procedure for digital proof of life.
Which documents are required?
- Identity card or passport
- when using the form: the completed and confirmed form
- Further documents on request if necessary
What fees are incurred?
- Life certificate for the purposes of statutory pension insurance: usually free of charge.
- As proof for foreign pension insurance providers and for private insurance companies (e.g. company pensions): subject to a fee
Processing time
The life certificate is usually confirmed immediately upon personal application.
