Driving licence: minimum age - exceptions
Service description
The minimum age for obtaining a driving licence for categories A2, B, BE, C1 and C1E is generally 18 years. Driving licences for categories A1, AM, L and T can be obtained from the age of 16.
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure provides detailed information on the relevant minimum age for driving licence categories on its website.
The issue of a driving licence before reaching the respective minimum age can only be considered if there are exceptional circumstances in your person that differ significantly from the situation of people of the same age and waiting until you reach the minimum age would mean unreasonable hardship for you.
