    If you want to exhibit animals in a zoological garden or similar facility, you need a permit.

    • the administrative cost regulations for the business area of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
       

    It is recommended to enquire about the exact amount at the responsible veterinary office and the responsible regional council.

Who should I contact?

Contact the competent veterinary office of the district or city where you wish to carry out the activity.
If the activity is carried out simultaneously at different locations, a separate licence from the veterinary office responsible for the location of the establishment is required for each location.

The veterinary office of the place where the company usually has its registered office or winter quarters or is registered as a trade is responsible for those who wish to commercially exhibit animals or make them available for such purposes and carry out this activity at different locations.

In the case of companies without a registered office in Germany, the competent veterinary office for the place where the first activity is carried out.

If you trade in species-protected animals, you must also contact the species protection department of the regional council in whose jurisdiction your company is located, as there is an obligation to register due to species protection. You must provide proof of origin for the respective animal and, if you wish to sell species-protected animals, you also require an EC certificate, which is issued by the species protection department of the regional council.
