    Public veterinary services protect the health of animals and humans. It is an important part of consumer protection, agriculture, the food industry and animal welfare.

    The tasks of the public veterinary service are

    • Prevention and control of animal diseases, in particular those transmissible from animals to humans,
    • Maintaining and developing the health of farm animals,
    • Protect humans from danger and harm caused by animal diseases,
    • Protect people from health hazards and damage and from being misled and deceived by food and products of animal origin,
    • Maintaining and increasing the quality of food of animal origin,
    • Protecting the environment from harmful effects caused by animals, animal products and waste,
    • Protecting the life and welfare of animals and preventing suffering.
