Service description
You can add further categories to your existing driving licence.
The requirements depend on the class you wish to apply for.
- An unlimited driving licence is issued for categories A, A1, A2, AM, B, BE, L and T.
Procedure
You submit the relevant application to extend your driving licence to the driving licence authority responsible for you.
Responsible office
The responsibility lies with the driving licence authorities.
Prerequisites
You must have reached the minimum age required in accordance with Section 10 of the Driving Licence Ordinance, or may submit the application no earlier than 6 months before reaching the minimum age.
The other requirements depend on the driving licence category applied for.
Which documents are required?
- Identity card or passport, registration certificate if applicable
- Previous driving licence
- current biometric photo in accordance with the PassV (size 45x35mm, portrait format, front view)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
- Proof of eyesight
What fees are incurred?
The driving licence authority charges fees in accordance with the scale of fees for road traffic measures.

The deadlines depend on the type of application.
