Applying for an extension of the driving licence to category T
Service description
You can extend your driving licence to include the independent driving licence category T.
With a category T driving licence (colloquially known as a "large tractor driving licence"), you can drive more powerful vehicles in agriculture and forestry. With this category, tractors up to 60 km/h may be driven. A maximum speed limit of 40 km/h applies to self-propelled machinery and feed mixers. A trailer may also be towed here.
The category T driving licence is issued for an unlimited period.
Driving licence category T is a national category. It is not automatically valid in other countries.
Procedure
You must apply for the extension of your driving licence to include category T at the driving licence authority responsible for you.
Prerequisites
- You must have your normal place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
- You must have reached the minimum age of 16 years
Which documents are required?
- Appointment of a driving school
- Identity card or passport (including registration certificate if applicable)
- current driving licence
- a biometric photograph in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (35 x 45 mm, portrait format, frontal view).
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
- Proof of eyesight according to Annex 6 No. 1.1 to the FeV (not older than 2 years)
What fees are incurred?
The fees are set by the competent authority in accordance with the applicable scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOst).
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The application for the initial issue of a driving licence expires if the theory test has not been passed within twelve months of receipt of the test application.
Processing time
The processing time depends on the capacity utilisation of the respective competent authority.
