How do I order, re-register or cancel a residual waste, organic waste or waste paper bin?
Residual waste, organic waste or waste paper bins must be ordered or cancelled via the (application form FORM???) of Stadtwerke Rodgau. The application must be made via the owner or via the tenant with a power of attorney. To ensure that the bins can be delivered or collected in the same month, the corresponding application must be received by Stadtwerke Rodgau by the 15th of the respective month. The bins are always delivered or collected at the end of the month.
What costs are incurred when ordering a waste bin?
The first registration in the case of a new building or change of ownership or the authorised final deregistration from the waste disposal service is generally free of charge. An administration fee of 20 euros is charged for each additional registration or re-registration of a residual waste container.
As a tenant, can I order or cancel a waste bin?
Waste bin orders or cancellations must be made in writing via the owner. Tenants may only order or deregister waste bins on presentation of a power of attorney.
What colours are the waste bins in Rodgau?

Can I dispose of my organic waste in plastic bags?
Organic waste may not be disposed of in plastic bags. The use of compostable plastic bags or cornflour bags is also not permitted in Rodgau, as these cannot be recycled in the plant supplied with Rodgau organic waste. The so-called rotting time is too short here. However, organic waste can be disposed of in newspaper or kitchen paper without any problems.
What can I do about maggots in the organic waste bin?
To prevent maggot infestation, organic waste should be placed in the organic waste bin as dry as possible, preferably wrapped in newspaper. Lime powder in the organic waste bin helps to prevent maggot infestation. In addition, the lid of the organic waste bin should be slightly open in good weather, as dry and ventilated organic waste is unlikely to be infested with maggots.
Who cleans my dirty rubbish bin?
The respective users themselves are responsible for cleaning the individual waste bins.
What do I do if my residual waste, organic waste or waste paper bin is defective?
Please send an e-mail to kundenservice@stadtwerke-rodgau.de and let us know which waste bin (waste type, bin size and bin number) is defective and what exactly is broken.

Drinking water
Brown water?
If the zinc coating in old galvanised pipes is "used up", rust will form, which you will notice as brown water. This effect also occurs if unprotected steel pipes have been installed contrary to the existing technical regulations. In both cases, the pipework should be replaced by an authorised plumbing company.
How much does a litre of drinking water actually cost in Rodgau?
One litre of drinking water costs 0.0018 euros gross in Rodgau, i.e. 5 litres of drinking water cost 1 cent. In relation: A bottle of cola costs 10 cents at the kiosk. In return, our customers receive 50 litres of the best drinking water.
Am I allowed to drill or tap a well on my property?
Since the amendment of the Hessian Water Act, the operation of private well systems is no longer subject to authorisation. There is now only an obligation to register with the lower water authority. For the Offenbach district, this is located at the district administration.
Building work?
When work is carried out on the pipe network or domestic installations, the water is usually switched off - for a few minutes or several hours. The result: water stands in the pipes that are not being used. When the pipes are reconnected and the water is channelled through at 4.5 to 5.5 bar, traces of rust can come off the insides. This rust is normally deposited on the inside, but is carried away when the flow direction changes.
Solution: Turn on your taps and allow the water to drain until the brown colour has disappeared. This usually doesn't take long. If this is not successful, just give us a call.Water filters for home use?
Nitrate, lead and bacteria. People mistrust the water quality and are concerned with the purchase of water filters. However, Rodgau's drinking water is of the highest quality and healthy. It is well below all the limits set out in the Drinking Water Ordinance. It is in no way inferior to many mineral waters from the retail trade. Additional treatment with drinking water filters is therefore not necessary. It may only be necessary to protect the domestic installation from limescale.
Why is our main water meter being replaced?
Like many other measuring devices, the water meters installed by Stadtwerke Rodgau are subject to the statutory calibration obligation. For this reason, main water meters are generally replaced with new, calibrated meters every 6 years at the latest.
Who should I contact if I have problems with my water and wastewater bill?
If you have any questions about your water and wastewater bill, please contact our customer service team at Philipp-Reis-Straße 7 or call 06106 8296-4400
How long is a water meter actually calibrated?
The calibration validity period for cold water meters is 6 years, i.e. a meter calibrated in 2005 may remain in the network until the end of 2011. For hot water meters, it is only 5 years.
How accurately do water meters actually measure?
The load of the water meter (flow rate per hour) is divided into a lower range (Qmin to Qtrenn) and an upper range (Qtrenn to Qmax). Half the value of Qmax is indicated on the meter as the nominal load, e.g. Qn 2.5 m³/h. Normal domestic water meters (Qn = 2.5 m³/h, class B) have a minimum load Qmin of 50 l/h, a separation limit Qtrenn of 200 l/h and a maximum load Qmax of 5000 l/h. In the lower load range, the meter must have an error of less than /- 5% during calibration, in the upper range a maximum of /- 2%. The error can increase during operation, e.g. due to wear or deposits. The permissible operating error limit is twice the calibration error limit.
Waste water
What does not belong in waste water?
Section 7 of the drainage regulations of the city of Rodgau lists exactly what may not be discharged into the sewerage system.
It is prohibited to discharge substances that:- clog the sewage system or lead to deposits
- form toxic, foul-smelling or explosive gases
- Furthermore, construction materials and materials that are highly corrosive to the sewer system and make wastewater treatment and/or sludge treatment more difficult may not be introduced.

Cemetery
Can a funeral parlour help me and take on tasks?
Generally, the next of kin commission a funeral parlour (e.g. see Cemeteries - Pietäten) of their choice to carry out the funeral. This company can also register the death at the registry office and take care of the other administrative formalities for you. The registry office is responsible for notarising deaths.
Who is authorised to clear a gravesite, when must it be cleared and what must be removed?
The right of use of row graves ends automatically after 20 years. The cemetery department will announce which gravesites are affected and therefore have to be vacated. If the purchasers of gravesites are known, they will receive written notification of this. Before the grave is removed, an application for the removal of a grave site must be submitted to inform who is to remove the grave site. It is possible to extend the right of use for elective graves (burial and urn graves). After written notification by the municipal utilities or on their own initiative, the authorised users can state their decision as to whether the gravesite should continue to be maintained.
Who may clear a gravesite? After approval by Stadtwerke Rodgau, the grave purchaser has the option of having the grave cleared by a recognised stonemasonry company. The clearing of a gravesite always requires authorisation from the Cemetery and Funeral Services Department. Clearing can be carried out by a stonemasonry company that is in possession of a valid annual authorisation card. What must be removed? The entire grave must be removed. This includes: the grave monument (headstone/memorial slab), the grave border, foundations and other above-ground grave furnishings, such as cover plates, planting, vases, candles, etc.Does the erection of gravestones require authorisation?
The erection and any modification of gravestone installations requires the prior consent of Stadtwerke Rodgau. The required notification must be submitted in writing (via the stonemasonry company commissioned by the authorised user).
Stonemasonry companies that are in possession of a permit to carry out commercial activities in the cemeteries must be aware of the requirements of the cemetery statutes of the City of Rodgau. Other specialised companies must always consult with the cemetery department before submitting an application. If, during a subsequent inspection by the municipal utilities department, it is established that an erected installation does not correspond to the details of the approved notification, it must be removed or modified in accordance with the notification. The resulting costs shall be borne by the applicant.Who is the grave purchaser / authorised user / caretaker?
If a deceased person is to be buried in a cemetery in Rodgau or their ashes interred, the surviving dependants must sign the application for burial from the City of Rodgau. The person who signs the burial application and thus undertakes to pay the costs incurred in connection with the burial will receive a notice of fees approximately three to four weeks after the burial, stating the duration or extension of the right of use. If the burial takes place in an existing grave and the deceased was the authorised user of this grave, a new authorised user must be appointed as their legal successor. The new authorised user must give their consent in writing. If this is not done, burial in this grave site is not possible.
The purchaser of the grave is also the authorised user and therefore also the person obliged to care for it, unless the surviving dependants specify otherwise. The provisions must be recorded in writing on the burial application or as an attachment and confirmed by the named persons with their signature. If the address of the authorised user changes during the period of use, the cemetery administration must be informed in order to facilitate the search for surviving dependants at a later date.Who is considered a custodial relative?
Relatives with a duty of care are the spouse or civil partner in accordance with the Civil Partnership Act as well as children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren and siblings, adoptive parents and children.
When and where should the death be reported?
The death must be reported to the registry office of the place where the death occurred no later than the third working day following the death. The non-confidential part of the death certificate must be handed in (see also death certificate). There is the option of burial or cremation. The type of burial depends on the wishes of the deceased. In the case of a burial (coffin, without refrigeration), you as the next of kin must arrange the burial, which should take place no earlier than 48 hours and no later than 96 hours after the death. If the wishes of the deceased are not known, you as the next of kin determine the type of burial.
Death - what to do?
In the event of a death, it is your duty as a relative to immediately inform a doctor or an emergency doctor who will carry out the post-mortem examination and issue the corpse certificate. You must authorise the doctor to enter your property and rooms to carry out the post-mortem examination. The fundamental right to inviolability of the home is restricted in this respect.
What is the percentage of urn burials?
A total of around 380 burials are carried out at the Rodgau cemeteries each year. More than 75% of these burials are urn burials.
How many occupied graves are there in the Rodgau cemeteries?
There are approx. 6400 occupied burial sites, divided into coffin and urn graves.
Can I use the funeral parlour and what does it cost?
All cemeteries have a funeral hall which can be used for a funeral ceremony for a flat fee of 400.00 euros.
Do burials still take place at the old cemetery in Nieder-Roden?
The old Nieder-Roden cemetery was decommissioned in 2021 and is no longer a cemetery area.
How many cemeteries are there in Rodgau?
We manage a total of 6 cemeteries, which are located in the following districts: Neuer Friedhof Nieder-Roden, Friedhof Dudenhofen, Alter Friedhof Jügesheim, Waldfriedhof Jügesheim, Friedhof Hainhausen and Friedhof Weiskirchen.
Radio water meter
What is a radio water meter?
Radio water meters are measuring devices with radio transmission for determining water consumption. In contrast to analogue water meters, radio water meters measure consumption via radio frequency in conjunction with a corresponding readout device. They have a data memory and can be read outside the house using a radio module (so-called drive-by or walk-by method). An external power supply is not necessary as the radio water meters have an in-built battery with a service life of 12 to 16 years.
What is the difference between a radio water meter and an analogue water meter?
In contrast to an analogue water meter, radio water meters determine consumption via the flow movement in the water using ultrasonic measurement. The water meter contains a measuring tube with ultrasonic sensors, which counts even the lowest water consumption and displays it as an instantaneous flow rate. The water meters also have a data memory and can be read outside the building by water supply employees using a radio module (so-called drive-by method).
The meter is battery-operated. This battery supplies both the measuring system and the radio unit with power for more than 12 years.
What are the advantages of radio water meters?
- Higher and no decreasing measuring accuracy
- No mechanical installations / measuring elements
- Calibration period extension to 12 years (or more). The calibration period is otherwise 6 years.
- Reduction in costs for the periodic replacement due to the calibration period extension
- Readout of meters using the "walk-by / drive-by method" instead of manual reading
- Avoidance of incorrect readings and reduction of billing costs. This is accompanied by a reduction in costs due to the elimination of meter reading cards.
- If required, readout during the year for early detection of pipe bursts, thereby reducing water losses
What data is recorded and transmitted?
The following data is transmitted:
- Meter reading on the reporting date (currently 31 December)
- Leaks, backflow, tampering, etc. trigger an alarm (however, the data is only read once a year)
- The meter number is transmitted during meter reading
- Meter-specific data such as battery capacity can also be transmitted
A complete reading of the meter with further data is only possible on site and only directly at the meter and exclusively with the help of a data logger by our employees.
Do the counters comply with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)?
Although only a small amount of data is collected, stored or processed when using radio water meters, data protection and data security of personal data are of central importance to us in this context. We are therefore happy to provide you with detailed information on data processing in accordance with Art. 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
All owners whose domestic water meter supplies less than three residential units must forward the data protection information to the residents.
Which radio water meter is used?
Data transmission via radio frequency is 868 MHz, in conjunction with a corresponding readout device.
Once a year, the billing data (meter number and current meter reading) as well as pending error codes (dry running, change of flow direction, etc.) and meter operating data (e.g. battery level) are recorded using the "drive-by method". For this purpose, the employees of Stadtwerke Rodgau drive along the public roads in a vehicle at a slow speed of 20 - 30 kilometres per hour. The data can only be read by our employees in encrypted form. The confidentiality of this data is secured by the individually used 128-bit AES keys and corresponds to the recommendation of the BSI (Federal Office for Security and Information Technology Guideline TR-021.2-1).
How long does a radio transmission of a radio meter take on average?
Data transmission takes 16 milliseconds.
Are people adequately protected against possible radio radiation and electrosmog, or is radio radiation harmful?
The maximum transmission power is only 0.01 watts at a frequency of 868 megahertz (MHz).
Due to these technical conditions, the electromagnetic radiation of the system is extremely low compared to other high-frequency radio sources such as radio, radio or mobile telephony or television and is far below the legal limits. The daily exposure from mobile phones, W-LAN and Bluetooth is many times higher than from the radio water meter.
The manufacturer is guided by the applicable legal basis in accordance with the applicable EU Directive 2014/53/EU. This refers to limit values that were defined in the Recommendation of the Council of the European Union (1995/519/EC) on the "Limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields". These values are in turn based on the recommendations of the Commission on Radiological Protection and the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection. The "Ordinance on Electromagnetic Fields" (26th BImSchV) of the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection, which is valid in Germany, is also based on these values.
Do the radio water meters constantly transmit data or are there restrictions here?
No, the radio water meters transmit on average between 10.8 s and 40.5 s per day. The radio signal is configured in the water meter so that it transmits on weekdays Monday to Friday between 06:00 and 18:00 at the latest.
During data transmission, only the data required for consumption billing or for reliable water network analysis and control is transmitted. This takes place once a year.
What is the maximum average distance between the radio meter and the readout unit to ensure a correct reading?
Readings are usually taken using the so-called drive-by or walk-by method and take place outside the building. For this purpose, public roads are travelled at a slow speed of 20 - 30 km/h with a vehicle.
Are the costs rising?
Even if the purchase of radio water meters is initially more expensive, the basic fee is not expected to increase as a result of the changeover.
The advantages of radio water meters eliminate or reduce other costs (e.g. meter reading, regular replacement after 6 years), which ultimately offsets the higher acquisition costs.
How is the meter changed?
As in the past, the meter is changed as part of the regular rotation and is free of charge for the house connection user (usually the owner).
How often is a radio water meter changed?
The advantage of a radio water meter is that the calibration period can be extended. According to the calibration law, all meters must be replaced regularly after 6 years. In the case of radio water meters, a random check is carried out and after a positive test, the calibration period is extended to 12 years.
What technical requirements must be met?
The technical requirements for installing a radio water meter must also be met for an analogue water meter. These are a meter location that complies with the technical regulations according to DIN EN 14154-2:2011-06, DIN 1988 and DVGW worksheet W406. You are welcome to arrange a consultation with us to discuss the technical requirements. The costs for the installation of a water meter bracket, non-return valve or filter are to be borne by the owner in accordance with §25 of the water regulations of the city of Rodgau in conjunction with §2 - Connection pipe. The costs of the water meter including batteries are included in the basic fee.
Can I insist on the installation of an analogue water meter?
No, because § 11 of the water bylaws of the city of Rodgau (as of 12/2022) states that the city of Rodgau can also determine the amount of water provided using radio measuring devices and that the devices must be used by the connection users. There is no option for connection users to choose.
