Applying for a settlement permit for holders of an EU Blue Card

  • Service description

If you hold an "EU Blue Card" residence permit, you can apply for a settlement permit after just 33 or 21 months.

  • Procedure

    • You must apply for a settlement permit before the validity of your current EU Blue Card expires.
    • Find out whether your foreigners authority allows you to apply online or has a special application form.
    • If the application can only be submitted in person, please arrange an appointment with your local immigration office. If you apply online, the foreigners authority will contact you after receiving your application to arrange an appointment.
    • During the appointment at the Foreigners' Registration Office, your identity and supporting documents will be checked (please bring your documents to the appointment, preferably in the original).
    • If your application is approved, the immigration authority will arrange for the settlement permit to be produced by the Bundesdruckerei (in the form of an electronic residence permit, or eAT card for short). Your fingerprints will be taken for this purpose.
    • After completion, you will receive information and can collect the eAT card from the relevant office. As the eAT card is linked to an online ID function, you must always collect it in person.
    • If your application is rejected, you will receive a rejection notice.
  • Responsible office

The foreigners authority responsible for the applicant's place of residence is responsible for processing the application.
