Driving ban and withdrawal of driving licence
Service description
Driving bans and driving licence disqualifications as a result of a criminal conviction have different meanings.
A driving ban of between one and six months may be imposed if the (stricter) requirements for the withdrawal of a driving licence are not met. The prohibition period begins after the judgement becomes final as soon as the driving licence is taken into official custody, but no later than one month after the judgement becomes final After the driving ban has expired, the driving licence is automatically returned or sent back.
If the driving licence is revoked by the court, the right to drive a motor vehicle expires when the judgement becomes final and the driving licence is then confiscated.
If you want to drive again in the future, you must apply for a new driving licence. The driving licence can only be reissued after the expiry of a suspension period, which the court sets in the judgement. The road traffic authority decides on the reissue of the licence in accordance with the provisions of the StVG and the FeV.
