Extension of a temporary driving licence for categories C, CE, C1 or C1E
Service description
The driving licence for categories C, CE, C1 or C1E is issued for a maximum of five years and can be extended by five years at the request of the licence holder.

Prerequisites
You must provide proof of your eyesight and a medical certificate confirming that you are physically and mentally fit to drive a lorry.
Which documents are required?
- Official proof of place and date of birth (e.g. identity card, passport)
- Previous driving licence
- a current photograph that complies with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (biometric, size 45 mm x 35 mm, portrait format)
- Proof of eyesight in accordance with the model in Annex 6 No. 2 to the Driving Licence Ordinance. You can have the certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, a company or occupational physician or a doctor from the health authority. A certificate issued is valid for 2 years.
- Proof of physical and mental aptitude in accordance with the specimen in Annex 5 to the Driving Licence Ordinance You can have the certificate issued by any doctor. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of application.
What fees are incurred?
The fee is based on the current version of the scale of fees for road traffic measures.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The application can be submitted at the earliest six months before the expiry date of the previous driving licence.
If the application is submitted after the expiry date of the previous licence, a new licence will be issued instead of an extension. The fact that you were previously the holder of a corresponding driving licence is then no longer evident from the new licence.
Processing time
The processing time depends on the capacity utilisation of the responsible driving licence authority.

Remarks
Regardless of whether it is a genuine renewal or a new licence (due to late application), a new driving licence will always be issued. Please remember to apply for your renewal in good time.
