  • Service description

    You require a licence for the commercial transport of passengers by coach and bus. Before the temporary licence expires, you can submit an application for re-issue to the competent licensing authority. The authorised bus and coach operation can then be seamlessly transferred on the basis of a new, temporary permit.

  • Procedure

    Proceed as follows to obtain a licence for the commercial carriage of passengers by coach and bus:

    • Submit a corresponding application to the responsible authorisation authority and enclose all necessary documents with the application.
    • The authority will process your application and carry out the necessary hearing procedures.
    • You will receive notification of the decision to reissue the bus licence.
    • If applicable, you will receive the authorisation certificate.

  • Prerequisites

    • The applicant is or was already in possession of a bus and coach licence as an entrepreneur.
    • The safety and efficiency of the company is guaranteed.
    • There are no facts indicating the unreliability of the applicant as an entrepreneur or of the person appointed to manage the business.
    • The applicant as entrepreneur or the person appointed to manage the business is professionally qualified.
    • The applicant and the contractors commissioned by the applicant to provide transport services have their registered office or place of business within the meaning of commercial law in Germany.
    • The reissue of the licence is limited to a period of up to 10 years.

    Legal entities under public law are deemed to fulfil the requirements.

  • Which documents are required?

    • Application for reissue of the bus and coach licence (surname, first name of the applicant; place of residence and business; in the case of natural persons, date and place of birth; number of vehicles, vehicle type, capacity of the vehicles to be used)
    • Certificates of employment or examination certificates (for professional suitability) of the applicant or the person appointed to manage the business
    • Equity certificate / additional certificate (form in accordance with § 2 Para. 2 No. 2/ § 2 Para. 3 of the Professional Licence Ordinance for Road Passenger Transport -PBZugV), not older than 3 months
    • Clearance certificate from the tax office, the municipality, the social insurance institution and the employers' liability insurance association, not older than 3 months (from the company, the legal representative and the person appointed to manage the business / transport management)
    • Certificate of good conduct for submission to the authorities according to § 30 paragraph 5 BZRG
    • Extract from the central trade register in accordance with Section 150 (5) GewO (for companies)
    • Extract from the driving aptitude register (FAER)

    • Proof of liability insurance for buses and coaches including risk index (WKZ)
    • Business registration

  • What fees are incurred?

    The amount of the fees depends on

    • the number of vehicles and
    • the term of the authorisation .

  • What deadlines do I have to observe?

    Deadlines only start to run once an application that is ready for a decision has been submitted. If your application is complete, a decision will be made within 3 months. The deadline can be extended by 3 months if necessary.

  • Processing time

    The processing time may vary between the competent authorisation authorities. The processing time may depend, among other things, on whether all documents relevant to the decision have been submitted or whether additional requests for documents are necessary.
