Electronic proof of identity; blocking
Service description
You can report the loss or theft of your ID card either to an ID card authority, a citizens' office or a police station. The staff at the relevant authority will immediately block the online ID card and inform each other (the police and the ID card authority or citizens' office) about the loss or theft of the ID document.
If you wish to have your online ID card blocked for other reasons, you can also have it blocked by calling the blocking hotline.
Blocking ensures that any attempted misuse is recognised immediately. Once the card has been blocked, it can no longer be used online or read out on site.
Important:
The personal blocking password is required to call the blocking hotline (provided in the PIN letter). If this is not available, the blocking password can be requested from the ID card authority where the ID card was applied for. To do this, you must appear in person and provide proof of identity.Responsible office
