Residence registration for inland navigation skippers and seafarers
Service description
If you are moving to an inland waterway vessel that is registered for a domestic shipping register, you must register.
If you are travelling on a seagoing vessel that is authorised to fly the German flag, the shipowner will register you. To do this, you must provide the shipowner with the necessary information.
The obligation to register does not apply in either case if you are registered for a residence in Germany.
Responsible office
For inland waterway skippers, the registration authority of the municipality or city in which the ship's home port is located. Other registration authorities or the waterway police may accept your registration, which will then be forwarded to the registration authority of the home port.
For seafarers, the registration office at the shipowner's registered office.
Prerequisites
The inland waterway vessel must be registered for a domestic shipping register.
The seagoing vessel must be authorised to fly the federal flag.
