Business re-registration

    If you wish to relocate your company’s registered office within the jurisdiction of the local authority that has previously been responsible for it, you must re-register your business. The same applies if you change the location of your registered office or the registered office of a branch or dependent branch.

    If you change the nature of your business, you must re-register your business. This is the case, for example, if you intend to offer goods or services in your shop in future which are not customary for your registered business, either exclusively or in addition to your existing range.

    In addition, you must update your business registration if your name as a business owner changes.

    The change of address must be carried out by the following persons or their authorised representatives:

    • in the case of sole traders: by the trader themselves
    • in the case of legal entities: by their legal representatives; this applies, for example, to limited liability companies (GmbH) and public limited companies (AG)
    • in the case of partnerships: by all partners authorised to manage the business: this applies, for example, to general partnerships (OHG), limited partnerships with share capital (KG), civil-law partnerships (GbR), limited liability companies and limited partnerships (GmbH & Co. KG)

    If you move your business premises to another local authority area, you must register your business at the new location. Your old location will then be automatically deregistered. This is not a change of registration.
